Your Doctor should have explained that the red blood cells carry oxygen from the lungs to the body. Fewer red cells means less oxygen and so you feel tired and maybe short of breath.
The body produces red blood cells all the time , but it needs iron to do so. If your diet is very low on iron you can become anemic.
The treatment is iron injections, or iron pills , or increasing things rich in iron like red meat. If you are a vegetarian there are some vegetables rich in iron .
If you are severely anemic a blood transfusion will give you a more rapid recovery.
Red blood cells are replaced completely over a period of two-three months . Thats probably why your Doctor said a three month treatment.
There are some other conditions that can lead to anemia, one being a bleeding in the digestive system .
Your Doctor should have started treatment and should monitor your recovery with another blood test in a few weeks.
The link below has some information on food sources of iron.
A bowl of corn flakes has about 1/2 the daily requirement of iron. Vitamen C helps the body absorb iron , so a glass of orange juice with breakfast would be good .

I am sorry to hear about your illness. From what I understand, Anemia is usually due to low iron or B12 count in your body. You can usually get supplements for iron and B12 at a local drug store and those can help the problem. You should make sure with your doctor that that is truly the type of Anemia you have before you start taking supplmements.

i had the same problem. i wasnt eating enough, i was always getting dizzy when i stood up, sometimes so much that i couldnt even support myself and i would just sort of crumple back to the floor until i could see straight again and breathe easily.
what solved it was my boyfriend forcing me to eat more, especially of meat and while i have hated eating the meat (i was previously a vegetarian) it has solved everything. I still get cold easily, but the worst of it -the passing out, or just not being able to stand-no longer effects me

I was anaemic 3 yrs ago, I was on iron pills for nine months and it didn't help. My periods were so heavy and I was weak, fatigue and always cold even in the hot summer days. My problem was my heavy periods I had a hysterectomy done and my iron was back to normal and I'm not weak like I used to I still get cold but nothing compares to what it used to be. Follow your Dr. advise. Good luck!

Nucleus and color. Nucleus because they're only transport units which is why they have that doughnut shape (as someone else said) and color because the red turns to blue when oxygen is removed and CO2 is it's replacement (it gets its color from the associated molecule attached to it.) It has a cell membrane, and it has fluid (plasma, I believe... actually I'm totally wrong but I know it has something.)

My mom had that before. I remember she said she was always tired, and if she walked a little distance, she was all tired and breathing hard for air. The only way to fix it is by going to the hospital and get blood.

Hopefully your doctor gave you iron pills. But you also need to be eating things high in iron like red meat and veggies. there is not much else you can do because it is in your blood.

i think that your doctor has told you that anemia is not a disease but a sign of malnutrition or an underlying effect of another disease. You better do what your doctor has told you. He knows what he is talking about.
