your head unit will not play cds encoded in the mp3 format. Upgrade your head unit...Nowadays $100 will get you one that will play mp3's

Use recordable 'Audio' CD when you burn your music; they have a bluish tint and cost a little more.
Regular DVD/CDs that save data and/or music will only play back on computers.

Older players will not uncompress files such as MP-3 cd format. Newer players have no problem at all.
