The first thing is that flying is fun. You have nothing to worry about and lots of new things to do. On the airplane you will be able to watch movies or listen to music, You can bring your own Ipod or computer with you if you want, so you have familiar things with you to help you stay calm. But... there is no reason for you not to be calm. Make sure you get a window seat so you can watch the world go bye. and you still have enough time to order special meals. If there is anything that you want to eat like Vegetarian or no Carb meals they will provide them for you free of charge. Just call the airline and let them know. If you are going by yourself, tell the Stewardess that it is your first trip and she will make sure that things are fun for you and keep an eye on you if you want her to. These are nice people and you will wonder at the end of your trip, "Why was I ever worried?"
good luck and happy traveling

Flying can be scary and it is also really amazing when you think about it, but most of the time it is even boring!
When you enter the plane, you will sit down, buckle up and wait for taxi-ing and take off. There will be a safety video/demonstration. That always happens and doesn't mean something bad will happen. Take off feels really fast and you get pushed back into your seat, your ears will get pressured as the plane rises up but just swallow or have something to chew or suck on. Once the plane levels out you will feel no more ear pressure.
You might get served some juice, a snack, even a meal (depends on your carrier and how long the flight is).
If you have a window seat and it's daytime you can look at the clouds and the beautiful shapes of the land below.
For landing, the plane will start descend slowly. It doesn't tilt down suddenly, it is all gradual and takes a few minutes.
Your ears will pop again. It might get bumpy but then again, I have slept through landings and not even noticed.
You can read the inflight magazine, your own reading material, listen to music (theirs or your own), watch vidoes, play games.... talk to your neighbour!
It is natural to have anxiety at any age and even when you are an experienced flyer. There are things you can do to calm down.
Sprinkle some lavender on a tissue and hold it to your nose
Distract yourself with the suggestions above
Take a herbal remedy before you go - like Rescue Remedy.
If you are very scared, make sure you tell the stewardess before the plane takes off.
I am sure you will be so amazed at what is happening you will forget to be scared when you eventually do go.
"Present fears are less than horrible imaginings" - Shakespeare.

Don't worry about it. Like an above poster said, more people are killed by mules than airplanes. I've flown as an unaccompanied minor before, and in fact, I'm taking a flight to Florida next week. I'm 13, too. Trust me, once you are up in the air, you are about as safe as can be. Flying by air is one of the safest means of travel nowdays. If you're on an airplane that offers unaccompanied minor service, and you're taking it, there is absolutely nothing to be worried about. However, if you're not using an UMS, then just allow yourself plenty of time to get to the gate, and then if you have a layover, do the same thing, maybe getting something to eat or read at the airport. If you are using UMS, the people will allow you to get something to eat, and then you wait in a room for your flight (this is where a book, iPod, computer, etc. comes in handy). Employees of the airline will take you to your flight. When you get to your final destination and if you're using UMS, then the flight attendant or someone who works for the airline will accompany you and the other UMS kids down to baggage claim to meet the person who is picking you up. If you're not using UMS, then just follow the Baggage claim signs down there and meet/wait for the person who's picking you up! It's really not very complicated. Just bring something to do, some money for headphones/movies depending on what kind of airplane you're flying in, and stay calm. It'll be alright, and it's actually quite fun once you've calmed down. I was quite nervous my first time, and it turned out fine. I hope you have a fantabulous trip!!!

I'm 14 and I've flied alone since I was nine. The flight attendents usually make the trip a lot less stressful. I usually read a magazine or a book during takeoff, so that way I don't even notice how high I am in the air. I usually think of this fact when I fly: "More people die from mules than planes" If you want, talk to other people around you to get your mind off of things. Hope that helps. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me.

I have flown so many times in my life....I would say at least 100 flights. I love flying. What are you afraid of exactly? Are you afraid of dying in a crash? The pilots and all the other passengers want to fly as safely as you do, its sillly to think about what could go wrong. I like the take off and landing, but I think some people dont like that part so much. I would distract yourself with a book or a magazine during the take off and landing if you think your going to be nervous. I think your going to find out that it is really exciting to fly. People do it everyday. Your going to be fine.
