Agreed. I'm warming to religion myself and I know exactly what you mean. I've swayed back and forth in my beliefs and I'm taking a general education course at uni on the Bible. I have been forced to look at it with new eyes and as much as I thought it was a bit far-fetched before, I now find it quite comforting when I have to do my readings. I don't agree with the ways of the churches and the money grabbing but I'm starting to feel differently about the Bible. If you haven't read The Alchemist, you definitely should.

I was skeptical until things changed my opinion for me. I've seen things I cannot explain. When I read the new testament certain things started clicking. When I read Isaiah it fit more. When I read proverbs a lot of it just made a whole lot of sense. Slowly, little by little, with life experience and then reading the bible I evolved into a full fledged Christian. I discovered I felt better and was at peace. I stopped worrying about things. So far it's working for me. Now I'm skeptical when people say stuff like "scientifically proven" when they're spouting theories off based on assumptions they have no way of verifying their validity.

The best Christians are those that walk the walk.

P.S. That Monodeen character is either a Morman or a Jehovah's Witness. The Watchtower Bible is not a real bible.

It's okay to quote the Bible in this manner. I often say..."the Bible says" but then add my own thoughts about it or talk about other sides of the issue. There is a lot more to faith and religion than what "the Bible says".

Some people do question (are skeptical), I am one of them, yet it does not change my faith, it matures and strengthens it. I do not feel comfortable with people accepting their faith without ever questioning it, but as with anything, there are many pieces to the puzzle.

Dude! You're warming up to religion?! No, go back the other way. The tide is shifting people are finally chilling out about the old God peddling racket. Take a tip from that very serious cat. I must say I admire you for picking my answer on the YMCA thing. (You know I was just messin' with you right?)

BTW Meow, that face with your terse understated intellectual personality is sheer brilliance.

It could be very possible. Some may say they believe in God, but not all understand why they do. This is why some question thier faith. It is a hard question to ask yourself, but if you truely believe that their is a higher power somewhere in this/or beyond this universe, than you are truely spiritual. The problem lies between when I person questions their beliefs. God Bless!!!!!!

Disagree completely. The self-authenticating, God-breathed word is the Holy Bible. Discover it for yourself. Prayerfully read the Gospels- Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

I think the reason some people go to the Bible is because they believe it is the Word of God, which is perfect. There is even a reference somewhere in the Psalms (where in Psalms I'm not exactly sure) that says (in effect) that it is the word from God's mouth or something like that.

Yes... blind faith is bad. It will result in being "lead astray" by some off-the-wall leader, or in having your faith shattered by the first people to come along with a well thought out argument against it.

The editors of the NEW JERUSALEM BIBLE explain this as : "The Hebrew can be translated literally 'I am what I am' , which would mean that GOD did not wish to reveal his name to them" (p. 85)

"The truth is , nobody knows for sure how the name of God was pronounced" (Pg. 7 - Watchtower Bible and Tract Society)

Below is the true name of God for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear…….

Type down the word "God" in this Aramaic dictionary to find out what Jesus used to call God:

--WELL IF THE Bible really is referenced accurately , and very clear is it not fulfilling this description:
(1 Corinthians 14:7-11) “. . .As it is, the inanimate things give off sound, whether a flute or a harp; unless it makes an interval to the tones, how will it be known what is being played on the flute or on the harp? 8 For truly, if the trumpet sounds an indistinct call, who will get ready for battle? 9 In the same way also, unless YOU through the tongue utter speech easily understood, how will it be known what is being spoken? YOU will, in fact, be speaking into the air. 10 It may be that there are so many kinds of speech sounds in the world, and yet no [kind] is without meaning. 11 . . .”

--AND SINCE THE Bible can clear up any matter of worship, prophecy, judgements, relationships, etc. along with other subjects distinctly and truthfull--IS IT REALLY A BLIND EXPERIENCE , or VALID CONFIDENCE as this text sheds light on the matter:
(2 Timothy 3:16-17) “16 All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.”

--IT IS ONLY when religion plays its tricky role that the truth gets befuddled as this text warns against:
(2 Peter 3:15-18) “. . .Furthermore, consider the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul according to the wisdom given him also wrote YOU, 16 speaking about these things as he does also in all [his] letters. In them, however, are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unsteady are twisting, as [they do] also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction. 17 YOU, therefore, beloved ones, having this advance knowledge, be on YOUR guard that YOU may not be led away with them by the error of the law-defying people and fall from YOUR own steadfastness. 18 . . .”

--SKEPTICS ARE referenced in the Bible in the incident with the Apostle Paul in Greece:

(Acts 17:17-20) “. . .Consequently he began to reason in the synagogue with the Jews and the other people who worshiped [God] and every day in the marketplace with those who happened to be on hand.
--18 But certain ones of both the Ep·i·cu·re′an and the Sto′ic philosophers took to conversing with him controversially, and some would say: “What is it this chatterer would like to tell?” Others: “He seems to be a publisher of foreign deities.” This was because he was declaring the good news of Jesus and the resurrection. 19 So they laid hold of him and led him to the Ar·e·op′a·gus, saying: “Can we get to know what this new teaching is which is spoken by you?
--20 For you are introducing some things that are strange to our ears. Therefore we desire to get to know what these things purport to be......
---32 Well, when they heard of a resurrection of the dead, some began to mock, while others said: “We will hear you about this even another time.” 33 Thus Paul went out from their midst, 34 but some men joined themselves to him and became believers, among whom also were Di·o·nys′i·us, a judge of the court of the Ar·e·op′a·gus, and a woman named Dam′a·ris, and others besides them.”

--SOME OF THE SKEPTICS had a change of mind when Paul spoke of truth, which covered a lot of unexplored areas where the Greeks never considered but in vaguenss. That is why Paul makes reference to Jehovah God , as their designated place to "an unknown God"--

(Acts 17:22-25) “. . .Paul now stood in the midst of the Ar·e·op′a·gus and said: “Men of Athens, I behold that in all things YOU seem to be more given to the fear of the deities than others are. 23 For instance, while passing along and carefully observing YOUR objects of veneration I also found an altar on which had been inscribed ‘To an Unknown God.’ Therefore what YOU are unknowingly giving godly devotion to, this I am publishing to YOU. 24 The God that made the world and all the things in it, being, as this One is, Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in handmade temples, 25 neither is he attended to by human hands as if he needed anything, because he himself gives to all [persons] life and breath and all things.”

--ALSO please keep in mind the true thrust of the Bibles faith has no blindness associated with it as is defined here:
(Hebrews 11:1) “11 Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld. . .”

--MUCH LIKE the true sciences that deal with gravity; electro-magnetic force; sound & light waves and all of the established invisible forces that exist--they are realities not credulous or blind!
--SUCH VALID belief in the proven but unseen forces led astronomers to for instance had know that Pluto existed long before they were able to view it with telescopes powerful enough to see!
----They were able to determine its existence by its affect on the other planets orbits!

***THUS IN the same way people of true "faith" (not credulous or blind) listed in the entire chapter of Hebrews 11 , were able to have confidence in the God of the Bible , who provided trustworthy history throughout its 1600 years of writing!
