You can go to www.edmunds.com to check for recalls. There aren't any particular dangers to the older vans I can think of short of them being top heavy thus more prone to rollovers. In my town there's one street that goes down from the intersection in such a way you have to go to the end of the street it intersects with & turn around before going down. Otherwise you risk a flip over. This also means you take this kind of a risk with a blow out or running on a flat, especially on a highway where other cars are zooming by.

I love them for camping out and such but not as an everyday car.

Danger any form of transportation has. Plus driving a 18 year old car/van around could break down in a bad neighborhood. NTSB web site for any recalls and contact GM dealer for more information reguarding the VIN# and open recall camapigns.
