I put hot peppers and hot sauce on everything so I've learned from tons of experience. Like a lot of other people said, any dairy products counteract the capsaicin (the oil in the peppers that makes your tongue feel like it's burning).

The biggest mistake most people make is drinking water. That just spreads the oil around your tongue more and makes it worse.

The best thing I ever found that I learned from the chef in a restaurant I used to work at and that works the quickest is bread or saltines. They absorb the capsaicin and work the quickest I think.
