When times are tough I can feed 2 adults and 3 kids on $100 a week so you can do this.
Coupons are important. Collect what you find then join some coupon trains groups. These work by joining a train then when the envelope arrives at your house, you take what you will use and and replace with other coupons that you won't use. Yahoo has some coupon train groups.
Cook up a whole chicken. The first night you have roasted chicken. The next night have some left over chicken in a salad or a wrap/sandwich. The third night you have chicken noodle soup that you made with homemade broth. Broth is easy. Put in all the chicken bones, chopped up onion, celery, carrot and some salt and pepper. Other spices that you like, maybe oregano or thyme and I like to add a few dashes of worchestire to give it some spice. Simmer for a few hours or put it all in a crockpot for a day. Then strain. Add some cooked noodles and any left over chicken, some cut up carrots or whatever else you wanna add.
Plan a menu so you only buy what you need. Plan breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks. Look at your coupons to see where you can save on your menu.
Eat meatless a couple nights a week. Pasta with tomatoe sauce is always good for meatless. Make your own sauce with a can of tomatoes that is simmering. Add salt, a teaspoon of sugar, spices, a little parmesan cheese and simmer for a half an hour then pour over your pasta.
Bok Choy is inexpensive and very good for you. Cut it up and saute it in some olive oil and garlic. Put the stems in before the leaves.
For snacks, buy big then portion down at home. A bag of popcorn/chips can be put into baggies to spread out, make jello into individual size containers instead of 1 big bowl, have carrot and celery sticks cut up and in the fridge (keep in water), cheerios eaten without milk are a good snack.

Well the first thing you should do is try to avoid anything that is prepackaged or preprocessed, most of these things are unhealthy as well as extra expensive. For snacks get some cheap fruits that are in seasons (I really don't know but I assume apples and nectarines are fairly cheap fruits). Have more chicken, turkey, fish instead of red meats they have less saturated fats. Wen your making food soup and broth go a long way meaning they are filling without requiring too many items.
So really I would advise going out buying whole vegetables, fruits, meats. Cut out the cookies, candy, ice cream and have fun creating your own unique dishes. Experiment with the food you have, remember spices are key, they add tons of flavor without calories.

That can be a little rough nowadays, but it can be done.
Get roasts, if you can find some that are good but not TOO terribly expensive. Learn to make a lot of soups and stews. Buy frozen vegetables in bulk. Learn to bake from scratch: That will give you variety, and actually can be relaxing. Get lots of tomatoes and tomato sauce: Those are extremely versatile. Buy teabags rather than soda: Those will keep a long while, and are better for you than soda.
Look at generic goods and house brands, rather than the name brands when you can. Also, look at goods on the top and bottom shelves; That's where the grocery store put the least expensive things, while putting the expensive stuff where it's easiest to pick up.
I don't know if you or your husband are coffee drinkers, but if you are, watch for specials.
Get oatmeal and cream of wheat rather than the sugary kids' cereals, if your daughter will eat them.
Good luck!

It can be tough, but you have to remain committed to the amount of time and prep it takes to eat healthy w/o eating processed food. Processed stuff and eating foods out of their natural season is probably what's jacking up your food budgets. Shop the outsidea walls of the store--veggies/fruit, meats (what's on special, stock up, and buy whole not cut up chickens), dairy (sales/coupons). Hit the pasta and beans aisle, stocking up when on sale. These are great, cheap staples that can be turned into many dinners. Buy good bread, not white crap, but switching brands to what is on sale.
I buy things like rice and oats and such in bulk from Sam's club. Also, consider cooking in batches and freezing. Great way to utilize big sales while filling your freezer w/ good meals for nites you don't have time to cook. Find a quality farmers market--it's not too late in the season to take advantage of the cheap eats and blanch/freeze some for winter.

It really can be somewhat easy if you know what you are looking for. Like the one guy said, fruit is cheap and healthy. Fish is really good and cheap, just be careful because of the mercury in it. There are good cookbooks at like barnes n noble that have easy, quick and cheap receipes to help yu along the way. Good Luck.

Getting right foods with right nutrients is not really that expensive. Just choose or select the best foods from the market. I would suggest though, that you take meal replacements and save on money while getting healthy at the same time.
