Not a whole lot. It's okay to work out your differences and then get along fine, but discord and painful ripping at each other shouldn't be a regular feature of the relationship.
Some people are emotionally twisted, and if you can get them into therapy to deal with it, they can overcome the problem and relate in a normal fashion.
But don't let anyone use you for a punching bag, even if it's just talk.

I think this is the difference between teasing and insulting. Teasing is fun and, though sounds like an insult, may actually be a compliment. Insulting, though, is just being mean and nasty and hurting the other person's feelings. I think, regardless of whether couples disagree at times, there should never be insults or abuse of any kind. Mature adults can talk about what's going on. A solid, committed relationship is one built on unconditional love, and unconditional love says, "Even if you're not behaving well right now, I still love you and nothing - not even you - can stop that." The question then becomes, "Given that I am so unconditionally loved, why would I even think about behaving in a way that would hurt my partner?" I hope this helps.

There is no easy answer to this question. In an ideal relationship, both parties make the effort to understand each other. If anything, I'd say.. just sit down and talk. Express your feelings as clearly as possible.
To you question, if there is a scale that one can measure how much hurt one can take in, the answer is none. No one need to be hurt and if it's a one way street, where you are the only one getting hurt... think about where your relationship is going.
