Why does it seem or appear that even as a christian, "worldly folks" help you out in a time of need easier than christians? I am just posting a question so please do not be offended.

Actually to give more info I am a Christian I love Jesus and help as often as I am able. I am a single Parent and donate and give often to many in need. I have been in a bind and usually get the I'm sorry so.... please do not feel I do not hang around Christians. That is who I am around most of the time, but noticed non christians are more helpful recently.

That is why I quit going to church. I found when I was in need the "church" people were hypocites. Not saying all are, but alot.

Maybe it is just your perception. You can find jerks both inside and outside the church. It depends on whom you ask. Since your expectations of Christians is probably higher than your expectation of "worldly folk", you notice and remember every tiny perceived slight that you have ever gotten from any church member, and you overlook and forget any act of kindness since you take it for granted that Christians will be nice.

I don't know about other churches, but in my area, there are professional con artists that hang out in or around churches in order to get money and other free stuff from unsuspecting people by telling elaborate sob stories, which of course, are not true. After getting burned a few times, our church came up with a policy that all beggars need to go by the church office and get an interview from the pastor to see what the financial need is, and they have to get budget counseling, not just free money to pay bills.

After you have been lied to, and taken advantage of a few times, you tend to become overly cautious.

I forgot to mention that there is something known as "compassion fatigue". Christians donate to charity, and volunteer for service projects, on a regular basis, and get a little tired of it after awhile. They want a break from always helping someone somewhere.

Worldly people only help out someone else once in a blue moon, whenever they happen to accidentally stumble across someone in need, so for them it is a novel experience and they take to it with much energy.

I am not a Christian. At times, I am anti-Christian, Regardless, I must say that here in New Orleans, the majority of volunteer groups that have come to help gut out flood-damaged houses and rebuild them have been Christian groups. We see them in their T-shirts marked with crosses and names of Christian organizations all over town, happily giving their time, energy, and spring breaks to help out the people here who do not have the resources or ability to gut and repair their own homes. These kids are working their hearts out. The Christian volunteers are far more prevalent than the secular ones. I'm not planning to convert or anything, but I do admire these kids for what they are doing in the name of their faith.

Christians are no different from other strong believers, so when their faith doesn't rescue them, or give an explanation to their cry: "Why me?", they cry pitifully for help to any spirit listening. Why not? Every living thing (and a lot of inanimate things too), have spirits, and they probably answer.

I have known many Christians who do all they can to help others. However, many are "becoming" Christians cause they need to learn to give.

edit: God works in different ways... maybe you need to be brought to others outside the church. Maybe your survey is skewed.

Because thats what does happen. Christians are selfish creatures. They do what they do to please a god. Everyone else does it just because its the right thing to do, and you might return the favor someday.
