Why is your copy of XP on DVD?

I would suggest that you have an illegitimate copy of Windows XP then. Windows XP comes on a CD and not a DVD.

If this is the case, I would hazard a guess that not everything was correctly copied from the CD version onto the DVD.

I dont think windows 98SE supports a DVD player Microsoft has stoped supporting Windows 98 and 98SE you might try going to bootdisk.com and download the setup floppys for XP. Try to find someone who has a dvd recorder to transfer the setup files for xp to a CD.

Take it you have a sata raid drive ? when installing xp it tells you to hit the F6 key it then reads the floppy to access the sata drivers if you have these. if you don't have a sata drive go into the bios all your available drives are their just set which drive you want to boot from save then exit. Thats it you should now be able to install win xp.

Sounds like the ide card in your pc is in raid mode and there is no driver for this in XP. If you go into the bios on the pc you should be able to change this from raid to ide. Otherwise you will need to download the raid driver first
