If Islam is the religion for you then you will know it in your heart and soul. Let it come to you and speak to you, then when you are sure that it is the path for you go find a Mosque near you and talk to the cleric of that Mosque about the faith and have him educate you on the things you need to know before you can fully embrace it, also talk to other Muslims because they can explain things to you as well, afterall they are apart of the faith your trying to come to. By the way I hope that when you say you read Islamic books you read the Holy Qu'ran, because that is the main book for Muslims and if your going to be one you need to read it and understand it, correctly.

The first step is to declare shahada (I believe there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah).

I recommend that you contact a local masjid or Islamic center. You need support right now! Most cities have Islamic centers with educational classes.

Personally, I went with a friend to the masjid to declare shahada. You can do it alone, but I think it helps to voice your beliefs in the presence of other believers. It was profound for me to realize I was a part of a worldwide Muslim community (the Ummah).

Read doctrine, don't question. Learn to see the world through the eyes of dogmatic servitude. That is how to 'accept.' The first bit is easy - you must view anyone who does not follow this religious doctrine as 'outsiders' or 'unsaved' or 'evil'. Then the transformation is complete.
