When Jesus was asked what to to inherit eternal life, in Mark 10 his response was this:
10:19 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.
The Old Testament has 10 commandments, but Jesus only lists five, and adds in a commandment "defraud not".
Do the OT commandments still apply, or does the NT supercede them ?

Niki - and anyone else who says that the OT laws are still in force, does this mean that we should still kill people who follow other Gods and stone to death disobedient children and adulterers ? Or does Jesus instruction that only the sinless may stone people to death supercede those OT penalties ?

Jesus said that the OT commandments could be summed up with 2, Love the Lord your God, and love your neighbor as yourself.

YOU seem to forgret that he said that the most important comandments are love your neighbour as you love yourself and to honour god. he also said that the whole commandments are summarised into these two. how? read the first four and then the rest. notice a pattern. the first four give honor to god while the others tell us how to treat our neighbours.
so if we were to try to follow this then we would have to follow the 10 commandments.
no where in the new testament does it say that the 10 commandments were abolishes, contrary to that the new teatament says that we establish the law thru faith. read the new teatament and you'll see that there are teo laws mentioned, the moral laws and the mosaic laws which has been done away with. these are the laws of punishment and sacrifice etc. incidently the OT says that the 10 commandments were kept inside the covenat box while the others were beside it. for more email me

There are a total of 613 commandments from God and man would do well to abide by them.
The Ten Commandments of the Old Testament are the keys ones.
Nothing in the New Testament supersedes the Old.

Jesus also said on the sermon on the mound that He did not come to change any of the laws God had set before Him. I took this as an answer to a lot of questions, including yours.

try this look in the part of the bible that lists the 10 comandments...
The 10 commandments come from Exodus 20:1-17. Here is the verse:
And God spoke all these words, saying: "I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
1.You shall have no other Gods before me.
2.You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
3.You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
4.Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
5.Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
6.You shall not murder.
7.You shall not commit adultery.
8.You shall not steal.
9.You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10.You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s."

There is really nothing you have to do to inherit eternal life. Death in actuality does not exist and life goes on forever. What we call death is just the shedding of the physical vehicle as the soul moves on to another plane of existence. OUr life comes from God. God is life and life is God and God is eternal.

The first four are just warnings not to follow other cults, they do not really add much.
