They probably do it for ease of self identification like some people relate better with females than with males.Nothing really serious,as fiction makes no tangible difference in real time life..

Does it bother you to have god thought of as female? If you go into the Jewish theology (and I imagine Christian theology also since the religions are related) you will find that there is clear understanding that god has no gender. Because Hebrew assigns gender to everything (there's no 'it') a lot of male stuff got used to describe god, but there are also statements of god as mother and nurturer (traditional feminine roles). Just because the world has been making a false assumption for so long doesn't mean it's right!!! If there is such a thing as god, it's definitely not male or female, so the terms 'he' and 'she' can be used interchangeably.

Some of us believe that the Creator Spirit is both male and female. This is necessary to maintain balance. The Goddess was always acknowledged before the arrival of monotheistic patriarchal religions. It was actually they who changed it.

The FACT is that the fictional God is indeed a HE. There are of course some fictional goddesses but that great work of fiction, the Bible, clearly states that God is most definitely male.

The gods of most religions are male because men made them up. The few female goddesses were made up in the few societies where women were in power, or had considerable influence over men. In reality, all religions should call their deities, "it."

God exists above and beyond gender roles.
You can refer to god as she, it or he and be equally correct.
Look in a mirror; then look at the universe you inhabit. That and more is God. How can it have a gender?

God really doesn't have a gender. He is a Spirit, but we as humans give Him a gender to help understand Him better.

People who assign a gender to a diety usually do so because that's how they prefer their diety, as a rule.
