aphorisms !! Anyone here read nietzsche's gibberish, especialy 'thus spake zarathustra'??? Sprinkled in that tripe (btw: nietzsche channeled the demon zarathustra and wrote that garbage while in a manic state, in a few hours) are a few nuggets of hmmmm, can't call it wisdom...Let's see, can't call it truth (for it's only a smidgen of the truth) aha....a few nuggets of: doctrine of demons. In the form of aphorisms.

Dram ! You are sooo right, it is FUN to read the reactionary comments. Wheeee. 1st year philo student, huh?

Talked over your head, did I...Well, it wasn't hard to do.

And, yes, I know what an aphorism is: I repeat, why do you guys and gals answer with either an aphorism or a 'cookie cutter' response, i.e. it's all bull, it's not real, it's all imaginary/fairy tale or ______.

Mystine, why don't YOU ask people how and when they have used aphorisms?

To gjm: You just admitted to being very lazy.

To purp: I don't dignify (nor waste my time) answering 'cookie cutter' responses; they are indicative of a closed mind, don't have enough information to make a case for (them) or against them and are merely someone else's waste of time.

What is wrong with using aphorisms, and what does this have to do with Nietzsche? Are you a first year philosophy student trying to show off the big new words you have used? If you are trying to write for the masses please use terms that the average lay person understands. Speaking over the heads of people to make them feel stupid is very unclassy.

From what I've read in here from both camps they're just killing time. It's fun to read the reactionary comments though, I've gotten hours of amusement and to me that's what this is all about, the laughter. It's interesting to see how easy it is to manipulate a mob, or herd depending on your take on things, Machiavelli would be pleased!

You need to ask the specific people that have used these aphorisms you are speaking of.

If you are an atheist you can get to thinking that the only arguments religous folks understand is text blindly copied into the answer. I suppose it comes from getting that response from religious folks every time they try to answer a question.
Personally, I think copying text is just a way of not thinking, so no surprise to me that religious folks use the technique so widely.

So who did you summon to write this? It seems manic to me. Would you please give a few sources for the information given in your question? Just because the book of philosophy is titled so, doesn't mean anything was summoned for the work. Is a book like 'Their Eyes were Watching God' really about god? No, it has very little reference to religion at all.

Atheists and deists get fed up with our brand of gibberish, too. A lot of so-called Christian dogma isn't from the Bible at all! (God hears it, too. The only commandment with a threat in it is about taking His name "in vain"!)

I'm an atheist and I eat aphorisms for dinner! And metaphors for lunch, sandwhiches for afternoon tea, and god for breakfast. Yum yum.

If you are truly educated and can recognise where they come from it is shorthand for a long and complex answer if used appropriately.
