ora le, latina, get yourself a dog training book, or cd, dvd, read about your breed of dog. Bathe that dog in dog shampoo or baby shampoo. Dog shampoo is better. There is a very bad opinion about Pit Bulls because of bad owners. Make sure you are the pack leader for your dog and have him well trained. Good luck.

It's not a period, it is "heat" or in "season" She will draw males from all over, will dig, scratch, chew or any and every thing to get loose and pregnant, usually by the dog you don't want creating a MUTT. I recommend getting her fixed at the vet ASAP unless you plan on being a breeder.

You'd take care of a pitt bull just like you would care for any other dog.

1) Take to training every week and don't stop going
2) Desex your dog, by allowing your dog to remain 'entire' only frustrates a dog that is not allowed to breed. You're nor a breeder so the dog should be de-sexed.
3) You feed it a high quality diet suitable for it's age and body build.
4) You take it for walks that are suitable for the dogs age.
5) You provide it with good leadership so it knows you're the boss and does not become a problem dog.
6) You seek behavioural advice from a professional when you have a behavioura problem that is above your head.
7) You wash it approx. once a month with a good quality dog shampoo and give it a quick brush once a day to reduce shedding.
8) You worm the dog regularily.
9) You provide flea and tick preventation to the dog on a monthly basis.
10) You provide warm shelter, water & food for the dog.
11) You provide a suitable environment, good fences that it can not get over, that other dogs can't jump into your yard and a padlock on your gate to prevent someone from stealing your dog.
12) You provide interactive toys to the dog which provides mental stimulation.
13) Get involved in some type of dog sport such as obedience competitions, agility, tracking or other activites aimed at bull breeds such as cart pulling etc.

I foster pits. For the shampoo I use Oatmeal Shampoo as some of the pitties I have had, had sensitive skin and could not use regular dog shampoo. Make sure to feed a good food, I use Nature's Variety Raw Instinct for them. The most important thing though is training and socialization. You need to socialize them with everything and anything. Train, Train, Train. When pretty much any dog hits about 18 months they try to test their boundaries. This is especially true with Pitties. Everyone I have had at that age tried to see what they could get away with. You must be the Alpha with them and never give them an inch or they will take a foot. have a set schedule for them and never stray from it. Make them work for everything. Such as, have them sit before you let them out to potty, make them sit before you feed them, etc. They are great dogs but they are not for every family. Be prepared for all the comments that you are going to get for owning one. I get it all the time. People will find out that I foster pits and I have kids and they do the "oh my god, the pitbull is going to eat your kid". All of my pit fosters live in homes where there are either other dogs, kids, cats or all 3. But, they did not get this way on their own, there is alot of patience and dedication when it comes to owning this breed. I guarantee though that all your work with him.her will pay off and she/he will be the greatest dog that you could ever own.

I suggest you read up via internet on caring for a bull terrier, having said that like any dog you need to give it love, care and training. Training is essential for all dogs, one thing that many people make the mistake in doing is play fighting with dog, this can bring on aggression, another thing is that dogs when play fighting will bite ( note hard) again this gives the signal it is ok to bite. As for shampoo there are many good shampoo's on the market, if your dog has a particular need, ie. fleas, skin irritation, see your vet. Food again there are many good products available, once you select ensure you use the guide lines for feeding. I hope this is helpful to you.

Most important - get your pit spayed - then no worries on that score. Please do not use any flea & tick shampoo on her. They don't work anyway. Pits do have sensitive skin. The oatmeal shampoo suggestion is the best unless she already has a skin condition. Then depending on what the condition is the vet will prescribe a medicated kind. Please do follow all the training advice. Don't feed Ol' Roy. She needs something better than that.

I have a 5 month old pit and we have to wash him with an oatmeal shampoo because like most pits he does have sensitive skin. We feed him dry mixed with canned food for the time being.

DO you have a pit bull? If so, did you do any research on the breed before you got it? What difference does shampoo make if you only need to wash the dog once a year? isn't there any thing more important you need to know about your dog?

my pit hates water, so I wipe him down with sensitive skin baby wipes. He smells good too. I feed him Cesar's wet in the am and he eats kibbles and bits whenever he gets hungry later. He is always on the lease. He has all of his shots.
