I took my newly adopted kitten to the vet and the poor thing had a bunch of troubles - upper respiratory infection, eye infection, ear mites. The eye infection has cleared up and he is on antibiotics (though still sneezing.) I was just curious about whether the Revolution would kill the ear mites left over after the doctor swabbed his ears or will I need to bring him back to the vet? Will the Revolution also de-worm him?

Yes, it will. Often it will take the 2nd dose the following month to do a complete job of it.

Revolution is used to treat/control ear mites (as well as roundworms and hookworms) in cats. It should not be used in kittens under 8 weeks of age or to kittens who are sick or underweight (because it enters the blood stream and doesn't just stay on the skin).
From personal experience, I don't think it does a very good job at getting rid of them, and a 2nd treatment is usually needed. Your vet can recheck the ears when you have your respiratory infection rechecked to see if the treatment was effective.
I prefer using Acarexx to treat ear mites. It is safe in kittens 4wks and older, and in about 95% of the cases it only takes 1 treatment.
Some of the older treatments for ear mites included cleaning ears frequently and applying drops into ears twice a day for 10-21 days. These treatments were very stressful to both cats and owners as well as not as effective as the newer treatments now available.

Sorry to hear of the troubles your kitten has had- unfortunately it's pretty typical of shelter kittens. Glad to hear that he is on the mend though.

Yes, the Revolution will kill the ear mites, though like the 2nd person said, you may not see a difference until after the second treatment. and it will treat most worms that he might have. The one worm that it doesn't cover is tapeworm, so you should probably treat him for that- look for a wormer that contains a drug called praziquantel, such as Droncit.

If you are keeping him on the Revolution permanently, it's not as crucial to keep treating for tapeworm as the main one is spread by fleas, which Revolution does control.

Hope that makes sense, and is useful to you :o)

The doctor should have given you drops to put in your kitten's ears. That and cleaning his ears out should do the trick. Revolution might help prevent mites in the future, but I don't know about killing the ones there already.

Good luck with your baby! He's had a rough start, but he seems to have a good person now!

dont use anything unless the vet gives it to you ...keep in mind you have a KITTEN not a cat yet...every medication is according to weights....you just cant use just anything unless its given to you by the vet, however, you can use some hydrogen peroxide or alcohol on a qtip and clean the ears...it will take you several times to get them all
