Want proof of evolution, go to the hospital. We have bacteria and virus' that are evolving faster than we can create cures for.
For more than a decade scientists have created protein molecules from a test tube of basic amino acids and electricity. A simulation of what is believed to be the primordial soup that encompassed the earth. Not pretty to look at (from our point of view) but the building blocks of life.
Evolution created this world and it will continue changing it long after humans are extinct.

Evolution has been taught for many years even though parts of the evolution chain are missing. Another view is being put across and intelligent people will consider it or dismiss it. This is why we have opinions and come to conclusions.
I recently head a neurosurgeon on the radio say that the brain was so complex and showed evidence of design. This was his opinion. You can have yours but never say that you are right !00% when others with intelligence far in excess of yours have a different view.

Hello,
Leave that to their churches to teach but keep it out of the schools. When their churches teach mathematics from the pulpit perhaps they can preach creationsim in the classroom.
North Amreica is in a heap of trouble with its educational institutions lately according to the many reports and stats we hear and former nations who used to be so far behind technically a few generations back are surging ahead of us now. How dare we laugh and mock cultures like the Taliban for living or going back to the middle ages in attitude and belief while we are about to act in the same way ourselves...
man walking with dinosaurs 6000 years ago. We'll be laughing stocks of the world and not taken seriously any more.
Cheers,
Michael

No the theory has not been proven, that's why it's still a theory. Any theory must be SEEN to happen and nobody has witnessed evolution at work. It remains a theory.

I think its ridiculous to teach according to religous beliefs in the first place. Education is supposed to be about imparting knowledge and udnerstanding of the world we live in, not the indoctrination of children with the religious beliefs of their parents and teachers.
I don't have a problem with people who want to believe in god/allah or what ever, but it should be kept out of schools. School is for learning to read and write, do maths and science, and prepare for college/uni/apprenticeship/work etc. Kids should be taught life skills, not brainwashed with nonsense about going to hell etc etc. As far as I'm concerned, religion should be private and personal, something unique to each person. I don't believe it should be taught as fact.
I do, however, believe that children should be taught ABOUT the different religions, and to respect the rights of individuals to their own beliefs. Discrimination, hatred, etc of people because of religion - or colour, country of origin, wearing glasses etc etc should be discouraged, and respect and tolerance should be encouraged - not on the grounds of religion, but on the grounds of human decency.

What gets taught in schools isn't decided by fundamentalist Christians. Otherwise kids would be studying the Old Testament, instead of playing computer games and learning to substitute the word 'you' with the letter 'u', and the word 'for' with the number '4'.
No, evolution is theory. Hypothesis. Whether a hypothesis is taught in schools is decided by various curriculum committees comprised of people who purport to be wise in such matters.

One yes.
Two, theory means it hasn't been PROVEN. The theory has been generally considered to be fact, by all real scientists. Don't forget, science doesn't claim to have all the answers yet, we reserve the right to question everything, even our own conclusions.

They are not ignorant fools, they are dangerous people who do not believe in free speech and want to shape society to retain their own dominance.
Very much like we saw in the USSR, China etc.
Very, very dangerous in a so called secular society.

No, not just ignorant fools. They are also power-trippers who seem to feel justified in using unjust means to push their religion. I say if they do not want their children to be taught basic science, they can send them to a private or parochial school. But they must understand they are condemning those children to a second-rate education which will not help when they apply to college, especially if it is not a fundamentalist-supported college.

first of all, biology and evolution ARE taught in school...secondly, yes, fundies are about as ignorant a bunch as you can find anywhere on the planet...only the muslims are more ignorant than the fundies... and thirdly, any challenge to a fundies world view is extremely threatening and must be met with furious protest. fortunately, we live in an increasingly secular world and the fundies have been relegated to entertainment status to the rest of us.
