Try TalkTalk. You still ned the BT connection but you pay TalkTalk for line rental etc.
For £5.89 a month they give you nlimited evening & weekend UK calls Unlimited international calls to about 35 destinations
Broadband connection.

Even if you are only using the line for broadband through another provider, you still need the BT line, so you will have to pay BT to provide the line. You could try getting one of their deals where you have broadband and a hub phone which allows you to make free phonecalls through the broadband, then you get the best of both worlds - high speed broadband and free phonecalls.

I work for BT, I am not trying to sell them to you, but I have found that this works out pretty cheap altogether. They have some good offers where you get the BB really cheap for the first 6 or 12 months of the contract.

TalkTalk. They take over the line from BT @£10.50 per month plus £8.99 for as many calls you care to make, plus free Broadband. They also give you free calls to 36 countries. The only other charges are for extra`s you may want. i.e. Call waiting, caller I.D. and so on. There are several combinations you can have with free Broadband so this could be what your looking for.

there are alternatives to BT, although, apart from Virgin Media (and other cable companies), they all use BT lines: you just pay BT for the line rental. My husband is a contractor for BT and feedback from customers about TalkTalk (they use BT lines) is very poor. You could try other companies such as Sky to see if their phones packages are an option, or trawl the internet to see any other alternatives, unfortunately though BT seems the best of a bad bunch (we have the BT Home Hub - the phone is unreliable and crackly, and the broadband speed nothing like promised.)

In the UK there are just 2 basic phone services in the country, BT, or Virgin Media.
There are many other phone service companies which can work through these networks, but you would need one of these services installed first.
As you are not in a cabled area, the only line-phone service available to you is BT, but you can choose any through the phone-line internet service you want.
Sorry.
BT has made its option 3 price for all geograthical calls upto an hour cheaper than I have seen it elsewhere.

you would have to have bt connect the line and pay the line rental to them for a year if you cancel during that time a cancellation charge of £70 will apply... you dont have to use bt broadband you can have broadband with any supplier!

go to www.uswitch.com, and tell them your usage and go from there, by the way talktalk and bt both charge £10.50 for line rental but if you move to talktalk the whole bill is paid to them. There are isps, like f2s, pipex, plus, new net, and much much more who will do it together , depends what you like really .

Most of the other providers do not seem to have a proven track record of good service and quality customer care. Talk Talk is an example. Providers I have used have been taken over and the service always suffered
