Dogs know how to do everything humans "teach" them to do. Therefore, training a dog is not really teaching them at all, it is conditioning them to behave in a certain way according to YOUR words and signals.

Sit is the easiest one. Don't give treats or set the food bowl down until the dog "works for it". He will wag his tail or jump around when you have his food. Don't put it down right away. He will sit down. As he sits, YOU say "sit" and put the bowl down or give a food morsel. After enough repetitions he will sit on command.

You don't need to put a hand on your dog to teach most commands. In fact it is ridiculous to push a dog's rear down, he already knows perfectly well how to sit down. Remember, what you are actually trying to do is condition him.

Train him to lie down next. Just hold a morsel of food, have him sit, and then hold the food very low almost on the floor in front of him. He will maneuver himself down to get the morsel. Say "lie down" and give him the treat. Repeat, repeat, repeat.

Teach him to roll over by first commanding him to lie down. Then hold the treat to one side. He will reach for it. Let him keep his nose close to your hand, however move your hand so he has to turn his head. Eventually his body will have to turn too. When his body comes over say "roll". Give him the treat after he has rolled enough to have his legs lying on the other side.

Your results might be best if you work with him when he is quite hungry. If he is an adult dog he is probably eating only twice daily. You can work with him when it has been 12 hours since his last meal. Train for a while and then give him the bowl to finish his food.

Bonus: teach him to shake hands. When he is in a sitting position hold a morsel of food in front of him a bit lower than his mouth. He will try to take it with his mouth. Hold on to the treat firmly and when he can't get it, he will try to "paw" it. After he raises the paw say "shake" and give him the food.

"some animal expert"
This task requires teaching of the owner just as much as the animal.
It depends on how old the dog is, really as to how fast it will learn new tricks. Old dogs are stuck in their ways already and are really hard to train.
You need a hand full of dried dog food. Do not let the dog see you fill your pocket. These are the rewards you are going to piecemeal out.
Commands are going to be 1 word commands. "Sit". or "Fetch", "stay",
Do this activity when there is no other distractions (for you or the dog) so alone in a room or yard.
Get the dogs attention....When you say "sit", say it firmly and then push down on the butt. Say it again when the dog is sitting. Then praise the dog "good lil puppy" and give it a little bit of food. The dog is rewarded by praise and tone of voice of its master.
Let go of the dog, let it get up and say to it again "sit" and push its butt down again. Again with the praise and food bit.
If the dog just wants to play.....it will be harder to get it into "study mode"......just like at school for you. There is classroom and there is recess.
While you are teaching the dog, never give it food treats for no reason. You won't teach it anything except you are "easy".

This training will take more than 1 day. Just for the "sit" part. You have to be repetitive on how you do it. Same way, same voice levels, same actions, same reward.
The training cannot go on for 8 hours straight either. Do it in short intervals 30 minute spurts. Always keep the bits of food in your pocket after the lesson rather than give the remaining amount to the dog after the lesson period or day. If you just hand it all out at the end of the day (The dog will learn this too) Return the unused treats back into the box for next time over just cleaning out your pocket into the dogs bowl.

hey, first of all to teach yer pup some tricks u gotta be real patient,,,, also dogs get the command by the tone of your voice,, try to keep it same whenever teaching it tricks. for a particular trick make some kind of sign with your hand as they tend to get the signs much faster than the tone of yer voice,,,, also bribe it with some food like biscuits.... whenever it does a successful attempt... though in d starting dont expect any results or attempts, u may just have to give up n give it d bribe... practice for an hour or so every day n make sure u r a bit strict or it will take d whole thing as a play... ne further queries feel free to contact me....hope this helps

Tell Puddy to sit then push down on her backend while pushing a little on her chest. When she is seated praise her. Keep doing this until she does it on her own. Use treats also. The same for roll over. Just keep at it and she will learn.

what is a "puddle"? I've never heard of such a thing.
these are the steps I use when teaching a poodle to roll over.
sit.
down.
roll over.
you have to demonstrate gently, but firmly with your arms and hands the behaviour you want to see. sit, and down are fairly easy, but roll over is against the dogs instinct to protect it's soft underbelly. this will take time, several times a day a few minutes at a time, and it will not happen over night. use lots of treats and praise. you can also make it part of playtime, when you are playing with your "puddle" (I keep seeing muddy boots and a raincoat) just roll it onto its back, all the way over, and as you are doing that, say roll over. again, praise and reward him.

What in the world is a puddle? I hate these designer breeds, if you want a mutt, go to the shelter. I don't mean to disrespect anyone with a mutt by the way, they're awesome, but it's retarded when you have to pay as much for one as a purebred dog, especially when they're dying in shelters every day. As for the tricks, buy a dog training book, they have them in every pet store.

First of all stop referring to her as your pet dog. She is a dog. Your dog and your friend. Not a toy that does funny tricks to entertain people.

To train her, all you have to do is get her to do something and reinforce it with a treat or attention.

That's because it is her nature to want to please you and be loved.

Once she knows what you want, and it is something she wants to do, you will get your tricks.

If she refuses to perform for you, respect that and don't try to force it. Just as every person is not a natural entertainer, neither are dogs.

Her value is in your shared friendship, not her bag of tricks.
