For healthy and hydrated skin, you need to drink at least two litres of water a day and eat a healthy, balanced diet, which should include five pieces of fruit and veg a day and two portions of oily fish a week. If you're not doing any of these, then make an effort to do so. I guarantee your skin will look brighter and feel more supple in just a few weeks.
Whether you're carrying out your weekly or monthly skincare routine, you need to start the ritual by ridding the skin of everyday dirt and grime. If you've got normal-to-oily or combination skin, then you're probably better off using a foaming cleanser that can be washed off with water. Try the gorgeous Kiehl's Gentle Foaming Face Wash (£15.50), which gently softens and restores. If you've got normal-to-dry skin then oil and milk-based lotions are best. Trilogy's soothing Rosehip Cleansing Oil (£14.95; 01403 786 035) is excellent. If you suffer from spots, use Benefit's Wooosh! Foaming Facial Wash (£14.50; www.benefitcosmetics.com) as it'll root out impurities without damaging or dehydrating the skin.

The very best thing you can do for your skin is moisturize it in and out. Drink, drink drink purified, not bottled water, not soda pop. If you wait until you are thirsty you are already dehydrated. two liters a day, if it is hot and you are exercising, up to three liters a day. Get a good "noncomedonic" moisturizer with a sunscreen and use it night and day after cleansing your skin. Keep your skin clean and dont touch your face as a habit. Don't wear makeup everyday, let your skin breathe sometimes. Don't go to bed in without washing your face. Don't pick inflamed blemishes, get a professional blackhead remover and use before the pimples develop.
First aid for occasional red spots and breakouts: dot eye drops on them, the kind that takes the red out. It works on the skin too.

Go for natural skin care:

As you age, the production of hormones and oil in the body slows down. Use external applications judiciously and rejuvenate your skin.

Very often it is found that skin looks dull and lifeless. This is because of accumulated dirt, sebum and dead skin. Facemasks are used to rejuvenate the skin. Clay and fullers earth contain aluminum silicate, which not only removes the excess oil, but also helps in removing the dead cells.

So if you want to have a healthy skin, drink plenty of water, exercise regularly, reduce stress, sleep well and eat healthy.

There is no substitute for cleaning -- Twice or thrice a day for a dry skin and 4-5 times for an oily skin is sufficient. The cleaning agents can be in the form of soap or in the form of creams, lotions or gels. Fresh milk is considered to be a good natural cleanser.

DO NOT SUN YOURSELF!!!!!

I am majoring in dermatology and have just started my first year of med school so I'm extremely passionate on this subject.

(not that advice from anyone who knows a lot about skin has any influence on what you are going to choose to do, but it's worth a shot)

SO many women are damaging their skin by sunning themselves. The amount of damage that happens to your skin when overly exposed to UV rays makes your skin layers thicken, and the cell turnover to buildup meaning this causes ACNE and makes your skin dry, flakey, and oh yeah, this is the BIG one:

WRINKLES.
you may not notice it now, but trust me, you'll pay for it later.

Just watch everyone in the fall, Sept / October and I guarantee you will notice people having more breakouts. The thick summer layers from tanning will be wearing down and the skin underneath has been infected.

Sun is important for Vitamin D, yes. It is not healthy to live in a cave, so I'm not suggesting that. However, if you are going to be out (i.e. the beach) or know that you are going to be in the sun for a while you MUST use SPF 45 (neutrogena just came out with a Dry-Touch SPF 70 for your face).

Don't forget to lather on your neck and hands. Two places where many women run to the dermatologists later in life wanting to have age spots on their hands removed and want to treatments to smooth fine lines / wrinkles. Your neck is one of the first places you will start seeing wrinkles and will make you looking older a lot faster.

1. Keep it out of the sun.
2. Keep it moisturized!! (drink water!!!)
3. Don't sleep with makeup on at night

Do those key 3 things and your face will be significantly healthier.

First, avoid sun exposure. Sun exposure is the single most damaging thing you can do to your skin and is the number one cause of pre-mature aging.

Also, have -- and stick to -- a good skin care routine that includes cleansing, toning and moisturizing twice daily. Don't use skin care products with mineral oil, and insure that you have the right moisture balance in your skin. I only use products that are botanically-based.

Eat right and get plenty of sleep.

Probably the best thing you can do for your skin is to become a vegan. Animal flesh, eggs and dairy products are known to be causes of acne, oil, etc. If you want great skin quick I suggest fasting. I fast once every two or three months, usually for a week or two, and it is amazing how many toxins you get rid off. by the end your skin will be amlost flawless.

As often as possible rinse your face with plain hot water. As hot as you can handle. It's like an instant steamer. Use a face cloth or towel. If you wear make-up obviously you cant do it often but try to do it whenever you can
