Since he is my namesake, and I am an atheist, I would constantly use that argument to end all religious discussion with my Mother.
That and the story of him raping his first wife after sending her husband to his death on the frontlines.

Nice guy.

the practice in those ancient days was for older soldiers to have boys, who were young men who fought as second rate soldiers and provided sexual services for the older guys, since women could not follow the army and stayed at home. that was a common practice in ancient Greece, and probably also in ancient Israel.
Maybe David served as Jonathan's boy sometime during his early age as a singer in the palace of Saul.
The bible is clearly not going into details of that.

interesting

"The translators of the Living Bible apparently could not handle the thought of two adult men kissing, so they simply said the two shook hands! This is less than honest. The original Hebrew text says that they kissed each other and wept together until David became large; i.e. had an erection. Again, the thought of David becoming sexually aroused after kissing Jonathan is too threatening for Bible translators, so they either ignored the ending entirely or created one of their own. "

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised. It was perfectly normal in those days... so why would David be different just because he was in the bible?
