You probably have lots of spyware. You need anti-spyware. Some of them are free from here:

It would be good to have an active anti-virus, anti-spyware and a registry guard like WinPatrol.

ALSO take note that PC virus and spyware do not damage the computer hardware but just the softwares. Reformatting the harddrive and reinstalling Windows actually refresh your computer.

Virus scans stop viruses - unfortunately not spyware. You need to download at least two good anti-spyware programs.
Among them are:
Spybot Search and Destroy - both a scanner and real time protection and immunization.
Spyware Blaster - real time protection - especially by active x exploits - runs in the background - no scanner.
Super Anti-Spyare - no real time protection for free version - very good removal and has several fix tools included.

Recommended procedure for removal:
After downloading, installing and updating the programs - turn off System Restore - Right click on My Computer - click properties - click System Restore tab - put a check mark in 'Turn off System Restore" - click apply.

Restart - boot into safe mode - at the black screen continue to tap the F8 key. Using your arrow keys on the keyboard - choose 'safe mode' - press enter.
Choose operating system (XP?) - press enter.
Confirm safe mode operation.
Scan using both Spybot and Super Anti-Spyware. Remove everything they find.
Restart - boot normally. Test your browser - if everything is back to normal - turn System Restore back on by unchecking.

Suggestion: Using Firefox browser (free) while not immune from spyware - has far less 'holes' than I.E.

More than likely this isn't a virus. More like adware and spyware. Get on-line and download the latest versions of these free utilities...
AdAware : http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

Spybot Search & Destroy: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html

AVG Anti-Spyware (formely Ewido): http://free.grisoft.com/doc/download-free-anti-spyware/us/frt/0

Windows Defender: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=435BFCE7-DA2B-4A6A-AFA4-F7F14E605A0D&displaylang=en&mg_id=10134

Install these, update them to the latest definitions, and run them. You may be surprised at how much crap they will find. Good luck.

That sounds more like adware/spyware than virus/trojan. Get Adaware, its a free program that works great! You can get it from the Lavasoft website.

AVG at http://free.grisoft.com/ is a good free anti virus program, also Avast at http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html; but, my guess is that you have some kind of spyware. Download and run Adaware2007 at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php; and, since it doesn't hurt to run 2 antispyware programs, AVG Anti-Spyware at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/download-free-anti-spyware/us/frt/0
