You're going to need to set some goals and form a plan. It sounds to me like you have the motivation and desire to make some lifestyle changes.

My suggestion is that you start with something like swimming or hydrotherapy as your exercise options.

You can either join up at a gym, which is what I'd recommend, or try to educate yourself about this and make your own exercise plan. Other professional help is also available, but likely to be expensive - sports physiologists, etc

A dietary plan would be advisable too. You are going to need to maintain an appropriate caloric intake without starving yourself into martyrdom.

Again, seek help from a professional (best) or educate yourself and formulate your own plan.

I _would_ recommend that you see your doctor. If there is obesity in your family, it might possibly be due to some other illness that is running in your family (thyroid disorders, other hormonal disorders, etc).

Hi,

I've tried so many different diets in the last 10 years that I can say now, they don't work!
A few months ago, I came across a great product for weight loss and like many others I was skeptical about it. But I really wanted to lose weight and I tried it. The results were excellent and I lost 20 pounds in 2 months. I felt fantastic and I dropped another 5 pounds safely. That's why I recommend you check this product at http://www.fit-thin.info where they have a free trial and you only pay 4.95$ shipping and handling.
Good luck!

Check out caloriesperhour.com. I have found this site extremely helpful with losing weight. Also, you're probably missing periods because of your weight, but you still should see an ob/gyn for this b/c it could be something serious. Ask to go shopping with your parent and stock up on fruits and vegetables. Make sure that you snack on those and at meal times make them a majority of your meal (also, buy smaller plates and bowls so that you trick your eyes into thinking you're eating a lot b/c your smaller plate is full of food). Once you're comfortable with eating healthy foods, then start counting calories (the website I listed will help you calculate how many calories it takes for your body to just function and that is usually about how many calories you should eat). Learn how to cook for yourself and your family and make sure you have measuring cups and use them (I measure my cereal in the morning as well as the milk). Buy skim instead of the other types of milk, go for multigrain breads instead of white or wheat, buy cereal with high fiber content, if you have a sweet tooth buy lowfat graham crackers or Kashi bars (the Pumpkin ones are my favorite), buy sugar free foods (jello, pudding, jelly), and if your family is like mine where sometimes you have a lazy day, buy a few frozen diet meals (Smart Ones are put out by Weight Watchers, Lean cuisine, etc.). But always eat the quickly perishable food first.

Very good advice given by Orinoco.

I am overweight as well and am a 5'11' male and weigh 251('was' 260 last week). I'd suggest that you Google the Sacred Heart Hospitals special soup diet that they prescribe to patients that are soon to be operated on for heart surgery.

The soup it self is very good tasting. The key factor to remember is that the more soup you eat, the more weight you loose.

Don't be discouraged by thoses that say, 'diets like South Beach, Atkins and Sacred Heart are no good for you'. In your case with diabetes, I would keep a very close watch on your sugar level.

Good luck.
