There are quite a lot. Mostly japanese cars because older japanese cars are more reliable than american cars. Thats a fact.

Of the older cars I would suggest a honda accord, toyota camry, toyota corolla and nissan sentra or maxima. They are reliable and have many available parts. Toyota corollas and mazda 323's are also good but find ones that have not been modified in any way, especially in the engine..

Look for something between 1996 and 1998, they should give you some decent ones for your budget.

You're not going to get much for $3000. Finding anything decent for that amount of money is going to be almost impossible, much less trying to find an exact brand/model/year. You'd be better off using the $3000 as a down payment on something better.

That being said, I suppose there are situations where making a car payment isn't possible so you have to stay within your $3000 budget. In that case you're looking at something with very high mileage and probably about 10 years old. If you can find a vehicle that's for sale by the original owner and has maintenance records at least you'd know what you are getting. You're not going to get any kind of warranty from a dealer beyond 30 days so buying from a private seller isn't as much of a drawback as it could be. At the very least find out the previous owner from the dealer. You can learn a lot from talking with them and since they no longer have anything vested in the vehicle they will tell you honestly about the vehicle history.

Good luck.

theres a 1977 ltd 2 here in the paper for $450 with 89k on it. if you were here thats what id recommend... the most expensive part in the car could be picked up at a junkyard for about 300 dollars- a new 302 v8 ;)
