My one cat has always had a very soft meow. Most the time he just mouths it. He actually can let out a big noise if he needs to. The tiny meow is not a problem unless he really can't make a sound. If it has been going on for years, then it is probably just that he is a soft-spoken kitty. The FIV+ status shouldn't have anything to do with it. Enjoy and love your quiet kitty.

I have a kitten with a really weak meow. When I took her in for the regular post-adoption checkup I told the vet and she told me some cats are simply born with a weak meow. When she's playing with the other cat in the house she belts out some really loud squeals but her meow is really weak. I like it, I think it's cute!

Some cats simply don't meow loudly, unless there's a very good reason to. In fact, I've got a good sized kitty (neutered male, about 20 pounds) who maybe chirps or 'whispers' most of the time.

I wouldn't be concerned about the meow, unless it is a recent or sudden development. If, however, this is something that has suddenly happened, you might want to take him for a check-up.

Good luck!

Has he ever had a strong meow? I have 2 cats that rarely meow at all, ever. Sometimes, it's just the cat.
I doubt you need to worry about it if it's been going on for years.

No, my old cat had a very quiet voice that you could hardly hear and if you did, it was a tiny squeak. I thought it was cute =]

Its just like people, sometimes people's voices are raspy, or low, or high, or quiet, or loud. Every cat has their own meow.
