Normally it's 4 X 6, unless we're talking about a wedding photo album, which of course, depends on the size of the album itself or your own preference.

If you are talking about prints for placing in a photo album, (snapshots), then the 'typical size is 6" X 4", or 150mm X 100mm. Large 'full page' enlargements are typically 10" X 8", or 250 X 200mm.
If you are talking about the file size of a digital photo, then it depends on the capacity of your camera, and the way you have set it up. Typical RAW date files on a 10Megapixel camera are in the order of 10Mbytes, but if saved in JPEG format they are about 3 Mbytes in size. I find this size is fine for printing 'snapshots', or even 10X8, but for anything much larger, you would probably need to go to the larger file sizes. The quality of the printout also depends on the capability of your printer.
