I can never decide how to play them. My friend who I play regularly with always plays 'em hard and gets away with it alot of the time. When I try, however, it's usually a disaster.

What is the best way to play rag aces? Early middle or late position.

I don't like ace rag in any position. If it is a short table or i have a good chance to steal from position i might make a move with it, but for the most part 97% of the time this hand should go right into the muck before the flop. I never play it in a raised pot, and i never will open with it, unless it has been folded to me on the button. It is such a trouble hand to have, you flop top pair and you get out kicked to often, or even let say that you flop two pair, you are still very weak here since most time the other guy will have at least a pair and getting counterfited on the turn can and does happen a lot. So up front fold, from middle position fold, from late position only play it if there is no action yet or unless you have great position on the hand, but any re-raise you get pre-flop you should muck, because the hands that are going to come over the top either have a middle pair or a better ace.

Ace rag is a hand you fold with. Only exceptions I can think of is if they are suited it's worth seeing the flop or if your in late position and everyone has folded to you.
From early to middle position A/10 is a risky play, but good if suited I guess.
Alot of what you do really depends on a lot of different factors: position, table image, type of table, players at the table, ect....

Oh man, it totally depends on the table. But since it's a general question, I'll give a general question: If I'm holding rag Aces in early or middle position, fold. In late, call if I think there will be no aggressive moves behind me, or raise if I'm up against one opponent (A-anything has a decent chance against one opponent, pretty lame odds against 2 or more). Or, if I'm at a tight short-handed table, I may raise with it if I'm quite sure I can thin the field and/or steal the blinds/pot. Otherwise, it's trash.

fold preflop
in no limit, you will lose a lot more money than you will win if you always play rag aces

Example. You have A3 someone raises and you call. The flop comes up AK8 and he bets the pot. Can you really call here? If you do you are likely to lose your stack. What if the flop comes up JT3 and it is checked and you bet and he calls. If the turn card comes up Q, K, A, T, 9 you cannot be happy with your hand now either.

FOLD PREFLOP and you will get yourself into less trouble
