dogs generally get 2 types of mites. one is called demodex. this is a normal mite that lives on all dogs. often a lowered immune system or stressful situations such as a new home, going into heat, etc.... can cause these mites to multiply rapidly. often with demodex you will see bald or thinning hair spots around the face and front legs and ears. you nor any other animal can catch these. but if left untreated demodex can cause serious skin and other health issues. the other is sarcoptic mange. this is transmittable to other dogs. they tend to not live on human skin, since we are not a good host to them. sarcoptic mange appears generally all over the body, but mostly on the face and extremities and the underside at first, but will spread to the entire body if left untreated. only a vet can diagnose which mite your dog has. this is done through a simple skin scraping and the vet will reccomend the course of action. there is no home remedy. no flea product will get rid of mites. they are entirely different than a flea. read the label no where does it say mites. your dog needs to be seen by a vet. any type of mange or mange mite is miserable for the dog. good luck.

Any home remedy that you may hear about that helps with ear mites will take a very long time to remedy the situation and the condition may get worse instead of better. Taking your dog to the vet and getting the proper medication isn't all that costly. I'm a firm believer that if you have a dog, you should be able to afford its care. Get the dog in for proper treatment and feel good about yourself for being a good dog owner!! Good luck!!

Since dogs don't commonly get ear mites unless your dog has gotten a definate diagnosis from a vet that it is indeed ear mites then it should never be treated as such...you need to get your dog in to the vet to get it's ears checked, get a proper diagnosis and correct medication..there are several different infections and ear issues that it could be, not just ear mites..self medication could end up causing seriosu harm to the ear including deafness.

I'm afraid I don't know any home remedies but you also didn't say which kind of mites your dog has? Ear mites? Demodectic mange? Sarcoptic mange?
Demodectic can be hard to treat. Hereditary. Big problem.
Sarcoptic passes to people quite easily. Very contageous. Have to dip the dog in very strong stuff serval times to rid.
Ear mites you can find stuff on the net you can order to treat yourself. Its not very expensive to get it from a vet either.
Best wishes. Cheers!

Hi, just got a puppy and she had fleas and mites when we got her. We used some warm water and a flannel to wash down her head and ears. A flea spray is good though. It will target mites and fleas. Also make sure that you get a flea comb and sit down with your dog and give them a toy to chew. Lightly comb the hair and then backcomb it. Wash the comb in some cold water, warm will make the ticks, mites or fleas spread. Just keep brushing your dogs hair and wash down their body with a warm flannel and some cold water. It will make your dog comfortable and relaxed. Hope this helps! Good luck!
