The head scarf worn by Muslim women is to protect their modesty and avert the gazes of men. It's hard to block the gaze of men with self defense... and not get charged with assault, lol. Anyhthing covering the whole face should be forbidden in public. It was already forbidden is some countries before it became an issue. The only exception was during carnaval days of course.
I have always wondered why suddenly the muslim dress changed so drastically in europe. Did they have a kind of concilium? Did the Koran change? Why we see less muslim dress code in Marocco suddenly?

If Islam women have to wear a headscarf to avoid the gaze of men, why don't we do like this: in the even years women wear their (admit, sometimes very sexy) head scarf. The next year all muslim men wear 100% dark glasses! Easy na?

The burka isn't used for self defense. I read an interesting article by a Muslim woman that stated the burka made her feel empowered. She said she was judged for her abilities rather than her looks. It is a cultural viewpoint.

I'm a woman and I live in Canada. I go where I want, when I want, wearing whatever I want and I fear no one. Luckily I'm 5' 7", which is taller than some women and some men too! Also, I have taken self-defense classes. They give me confidence in my ability to take care of myself.

Canadian law does not prohibit men from looking at me, but I remember 15 years ago when men used to whistle and say rude things when I walked by. Today, however, that NEVER happens! Men are much more respectful to women now in Canada and they know, they may think a woman is beautiful, but there's nothing they can do about it and certainly, as far as sexual thoughts go .... they can think whatever they want but are bound by law to "keep IT in their trousers" so to speak. LOL

I have nice blonde hair that I would never think of covering and I wear form-fitting jeans and sleevless tank tops. I was told once that men from the middle east are told that women from the west are whores and will have sex with anyone, including THEM. Well, that's not quite true.

Our definition of modesty is different from a Muslim's definition. I consider myself modest by western standards. I don't smoke, I only drink moderately if I'm asked out to dinner or at a birthday party, I dress the way I want but I'm not dating right now therefore I don't get intimate with men. But I feel beautiful and there's nothing wrong with that.

I have had to use my martial arts skills only twice in my life but I was confident I could defend myself and I DID! Those two men, I'll bet, always think twice now before they give any other women a hard time.

I live in a beautiful, huge city, Toronto. I am one woman among tens of thousands of stunningly beautiful women who NEVER get bothered by men. That's just the way it is in the west. It's not against the law for men to look and wish .... but it is against western law for them to touch, and if they ever try anything with a western woman, they may end up with a broken arm. LOL

So, Muslim men who think we women in Canada and the US are whores just because we don't wear a najab or hijab .................. WE ARE NOT!
