Some of these answers crack me up LOL
You do NOT need a "telephone line" to have broadband. You can have DSL broadband without having use of a "telephone" line it's called a DATA LINE. Where you can have DSL broadband through the land line going into your home. People who no longer find a need for having a home phone get them all the time, through their local phone companies. I have worked in the Telecoms industry for many years both cable and land line, I professionally and personally prefer DSL over cable for a few reason, which I won't get into. I am just trying to give you a correct answer to your question :)

You can have broadband service without actually having telephone service. It's called a DRY LOOP. Contact your local telephone company for more details.

no...!!!!!!
here are a few options!!
you can go with your local cable provider, or with clearwire.com wifi-max....fixed!!
1) Wireless: There may be a public node operating near you or you may be able to share the costs with a neighbor.
2) If you have Cable TV you can usually get internet service and run that to a wireless router (see #1).
3) Cell phone. You can use your cell phone for dialup service. It can link to your computer's modem via bluetooth, wireless, or a hardwire cable.
4) You can purchase a wireless network card (Sprint, among others, offers the card). Using that you can link in anywhere within the carriers calling area without any wires or further hassels.
Options 3 and 4 will likely run up minute and kb charges so be sure you understand the potential costs before comitting to use that.
ok??
I dont have a landline....I have VoIP...and clearwire...19 dollars a month!!!

This is a common mistake,
I work with vonage, there are two types of broadband, there is DSL and Cable. If your are looking for DSL connection, absolutely you need a land basedphoneline to make it work. In the other hand cable internet connection don't need to have a phone connection to make it work. But the thing is, cable connection is more expensive than dsl. But cable is much faster. Another thing, if your phone line was disconnected, DSL is also disconnected.
But take note, there is new version(if I call it) of DSL, it's what they call "DRY LOOP" or "Stand alone DSL", where in you don't a phone line to get DSL connection(both provided verizon and Qwest) you can also try FIOS (fiber optics broadband) but it is quite expensive.

No. I do believe there is now "Satellite Broadband" and this eliminates the need for a telephone line. Sorry if this is vague I am no computer buff!
Good luck!

Yes. There are some very cheap deals out there. Assuming you are in the UK, Talk Talk do a good deal: £10.50 a month line rental + £9.99 a month for free broadband and unlimited anytime geographical calls in the UK and abroad.
In fact, I think they may have downgraded this offer to £10.50 a month line rental and £5.89 for unlimited evening and weekend geographical calls in the UK and abroad.
Hope this helps!
