No. It's a cancer, all right, but not one we cannot cure. We need to constantly promote the idea that religion is a private thing, people have the right to believe what they choose, including to believe nothing or to suspend judgment on belief. Freedom of thought and of expression of that thought, with the caveat that we all have good manners.
Different strokes for different folks, as we say. And therefore keep religion out of politics completely. One of the smartest things the Founding Fathers did for the United States was the First Amendment to the Constitution, guaranteeing freedom of speech and of religion. Other countries would do well to copy this model.

How can anyone answer this question? Is violence bad? Of course. A cancer that can't be stopped? Human nature is selfish and violent - can we change our nature?
