Is rock and roll the devils music? I heard that this was a popular saying in the 60s and 70s. What do you think? Is rock and roll influenced by evil forces?

Back in the day, rock and roll was about rebellion...it's all of its forms (now its about money, but that's another topic). Many, many bands used this mindset to create shocking images for themselves...Black Sabbath, AC DC, etc. It was more about drawing attention to themselves, than any real interest in the occult.

Some of the more radical christian sects believe that anything not about god or Jesus, must be against it. These groups, ultimately, were the best publicity that rock bands could get...by publicly screaming about how 'satanic' they are, these groups created an interest in finding out what was actually so bad about them.

There are a few bands that are openly Satanic (Marilyn Manson and King Diamond spring to mind), but again, they use their status as more of an image, then a pulpit.

Celine Dion though...that ***** is easily Satan's right hand. LOL

The only possible intepretation I can think of is that any engrossing music, despite being engrossing, is that it is a very powerful medium for communicating emotion, which makes it a powerful form of media. That doesnt make it evil though. Its not the gun which kills, but the person pulling the trigger and people cannot grow if they are not allowed to take responsibility for defining their own growth and learning from mistakes.

Yes and no. If rock music "rap" etc., makes you want to kill or hurt someone then ....yes is is the devils music. But if it speaks of peace...no the devil is not in it. Check out these songs written around these times.

Spirit In The Sky " Going off to the Spirit in the skies, Gonna go there when I die... when I die and they lay me to rest ...gonna go to the place that's the best."

Last Kiss " The the squalling tires, the busting glass, the painful screams that I heard last.. Oh where, oh where can my baby be? The Lord took her away from me .... She's gone to Heaven, so I got to be good...so I can see my baby when I leave this world." The girl is killed in a crash.....her boy friend isn't blaming God for her death. The girl is dying from her injuries, so the Lord takes her home. The boy friend understands, she's gone to Heaven and that he can go there too to be with her.

He ain't heavy, He's my Brother....... The road is long, with many a winding turn....He ain't heavy, He's my brother.

Lean on me. .... " Lean on me when your not stong and I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on."

Turn , Turn, Turn ........This song actually uses the words from Ecclesiastes chaper 3 verses 1 thru 8. "To every thing, turn, turn, turn. There is a
season...turn, turn, turn. And a time to every purpose under Heaven."

These are just a few from that era. I didn't put all the words to these songs ....
but , you can tell that these song's are about God.

The Bible tells us that music was played on all sorts of muscial instruments, even back in Biblical times. On drums, and other percussion instruments, cymbals, stringed instruments , organs .etc. It is not what the music sounds like, but what the words say.

House of the Rising Sun. " There is a house in New Orleans, they call the rising sun, and it's been the ruin of many poor boy, and God I know I'm one. Oh Mother, tell your children, not to do what I have done... spend your life in sin and misery, .... in the house of the rising sun." Now sing the Hymn "Amazing Grace" to this same tune.

Guess what???? You have the Rising Son.....who is a sinner who sees he needs the Lord, and even tells others to repent of this same sin. Then in "Amazing Grace" you see the sinner saved and prasing God for saving him.

It's what is in your heart that makes something a sin. It is also what you do that may make something a sin. Example: Looking at a man/woman and thinking they are nice looking is NOT a sin. Looking at a man/woman and wanting to sleep with them IS a sin. This applies to adults and teens, adults and children, teens and children, or any combination of. If you lust after the opposite sex no matter what age ....IT IS A SIN. This applies to men lusting for men and women lusting for women, etc.

God also said, "Sing to me a new song". I believe that God is not pleased with Gansta Rap that promos killing, rapeing, lusting ect. This applies to other music as well. Country Music can be equal to gansta rap, if it promotes lust or killing. Songs that make whiskey, lust, killing, cheating and the like ok is the work of the devil not God.

Rock and roll is only "of the devil" if you're one of the kinds of people who see the devil in friggin' EVERYTHING.

However, if you just enjoy music, rock and roll is great :)

It all depends. My parents listened to Christian rock and roll bands and Christian almost-metal bands in the 60's and 70's (Stryper, for example). If you were smart with your music choices, then everything was okay.

I don't think so. It is influenced by an aggressive nature within us, particularly in men. It is therapeutic to me.

For me if you believe in god you are not suppose to be into punks, emos or any of those scary styles. When you see a rockstar in black, it remainds you af a dark side. That's scary. Right?
