Yes. Take up knitting. It fixes whatever typing breaks, and strengthens the hands, arms and shoulders.
As for diet, low fat helps improve blood circulation.

I don't know about any diet, but when I worked in a factory where we did a lot of repetitave motion, we had to do hand/wrist stretches and exercizes. That is supposed to prevent carpal tunnel. Make circular motions with your hands. Another one that we did was to extend the left arm in front of you, and with your right hand, pull the fingers of the left hand toward your arm (like bending your fingers back). Repeat on the other side. This one really stretches the wrists.
Just found some more info:
Position yourself properly at your computer. Your screen should be 2 feet away from you and the top of your document should be at eye level.
Set up your keyboard so that it is flat or slightly elevated. Do not have your keyboard slanted downward.
Keep your wrists straight and elbows in a 90 degree angle while typing.
Rest your wrists when you are not typing.
Take frequent short breaks rather than one long break.
Stretch your wrists before work, during breaks, and after work.

read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies there is a section on it. I use a chiropractor and massage therapist. Pay attention to how you sit and where you need to have your arms and wrists rest to make sure it is not aggrivating things.
Muscles like ropes are made of many fibers or strands. If some of the individual fibers that work in combination to make the muscle strong are not relaxing they bulk up in the middle and are stretched thin on the ends which results in the appearance of "knots" they are the tender spots. The muscles that effect headaches can come from as far away as the lower back and include shoulders, arms, neck and head causing a cascade effect. So a massage (professional if possible) will help.
Specific to the head - at the base of the skull where it connects to the spine there is a ridge in an upsidedown V like shape - press in and up to the count of three, three times to help relax the muscles there. All through the hair scratch lightly the head you will find tender spots those are knots (rub the rest of the head) the idea is to go over them semi frequently until they are gone.
General - Muscles need magnisium (regulates many things) and potassium - both can be found in bananas or molasses (a swig or two)
Hydrate with any nonsugar (even the substitutes) liquids - quantity = your body weight divided by 2 times ounces daily. The head of neurology (10 years ago) at UCDavis told my husband that running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil - there will be problems.

Diet...no, you may want to just play safe and use braces and have physical therapy periodically. You can take breaks from your typing and do this:
stretch your arms out, start with your left hand, have your palm facing our, with your right hand stretch the fingers of your left hand back, hold this back for a few seconds and keep doing this for a few minutes. After you do this then just rotate your hand to get the blood flowing. Repeat the same thing to your right hand.
Take time in between typing to just rotate your wrists for a few seconds to keep the blood flowing and open and close your hands. When you get home apply cold and hot compresses. This may not keep you from getting Carpal Tunnel Syndrome but it may help you from getting it so soon. Also try getting massages on your hands. This will help dramatically! Also accupuncture helps as well.

Hi Laura, I typed for years and never had a problem with carpal tunnel, but the mouse on a compute is tough on the wrist I find.
As others have mentioned you can do some exercises for your wrists but also, ensure that you are feeding your joints.
What I mean by that is, eat well, take a dailly supplement (even the food guide suggests we take a quality daily supplement these days) and add to that (if it's not in the supplement) fish oil capsules, or cod live oil, then drink lots of water. Water helps joints!
For more infomation on joint health you might read through www.LivingWithRheumatoidArthritis.com, lots of info on healthy eating and health lifestyle.

ergonomic key board ...if you get carpal tunnel syndrome no worries because my mother had it and she was wearing custom made braces from the doctor at night and now she doesnt have it anymore. ergonomic key boards were developed to reduce the risk and there are cures for it anyway if you get it.
