Yup. Close to the freeway allows for easy access for members, especially since out there, you have to drive for hours at least in most cases to get to the closest temple.
And, if its right there.. more people get to see its beauty... hey... you noticed, didn't you? =)

We have temples all over the world. I do not know what all goes into selecting the ground for where a temple is put but you can go here (http://www.lds.org/temples/geographical/0,11380,1899-1,00.html) and see all the temples we have. There are currently 124 temples in operation and an additional 12 announced or under construction. I do know that when they are selecting the site for a temple they have certain things they look for, and they also have to deal with zoning regulations and building restrictions. Beyond that I can't help you.

Not sure why they picked that exact location but it may have to do with being seen. It's a beacon of hope and tranquility to those who pass through the doors. I know when my wife and I go to the London Temple we get shivers when we see it. It's so amazing and stands as a mountain of the Lord.
The DC Temple's beautiful appearance is only a fraction of the wonder inside. I do love the DC Temple.
My personal fave is the San Diego Temple.

most temples are on hills and should be seen from a while away. I heard a story that many people crash on the freeway looking at the temple. lol. I havnt seen it. The temple in New Zealand is built on a hill and you can see it from miles away., Very beautiful.

I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it looks so gorgeous :P you see it from far away. The first time I was going to the temple and the missionaries and my mom told me to look at that I was amazed! I remember it was aclowdy afternoon, and it was like if it was going to snow and the temple reflected soo beautiful. You should see it at night. I totally love the DC Temple, I did baptism for the deaths there 2 weeks after my baptism. I have been in the visitors center like 3 times and so far that's the only Temple I have visited. ^_^ Can't wait to see the SLC temple :P

Isaiah 2:2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us ago up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
