ESPECIALLY today. Have you not been reading the papers? E coli in spinach, botulinism in chili, toxic chemicals in Chinese imports? There are two big problems in the food industry these days, processing consolidation and lack of import inspection, and the federal government isn't helping things.
Every food crisis brings out calls for more inspection, yet the government is trying to cut back on personnel, so the rules are changed so that more food is processed (and hopefully inspected) in fewer places. As a result, inspectors don't have the time to do a good job and any contamination reaches a larger target.
Meanwhile, the drive to cut costs leads manufacturers to seek ever cheaper sources of supplies, which means the third world, where quality control is a joke if it exists at all. A recent bacterial contamination at one food plant was traced to a New Jersey seasonings company that imported from China, the country that allows antifreeze in its toothpaste because it's sweeter and cheaper than other artificial sweeteners, that allows toxic plastic in its pet food meal to raise the "protein" scores. Yet American companies are fighting like mad to keep "country of origin" labelling from becoming law.
Pray over your meals? You're crazy not to, even if you don't believe.

wow...................the whole concept and purpose behind prayer is to give thanks to the Lord for the meal that is before us. I understand that praying is a way of making things whole and protecting us from things being wrong with the food...but like I said...its the THANK YOU JESUS part that pasturizing will never take away.....KEEP PRAYING

Yes. You should thank God for the meal that he has provided for you. Whether or not you think that it is "natural" or "from God" is irrelavent. He provided you the meal. He provided you with the money you purchased the food with, or the skill you used to cook the food, etc. Thank God for everything! He is good! He is our provider!

Are you assuming the only reason to pray is to ask God to make your food safe?
How about a prayer of thanks? Or one that encourages you, the pray-er to understand and respect all who brought you this food- the people who grew and processed it, the animals and plants it came from, and the earth which supports us all?
There are lots of reasons to pray.
And our food system is far from perfect...

LOL I dont think we were praying to god to stop us from being poisoned but merely thanking him for providing the food in the first place.
So yes keep praying!

That doesn't have anything to do with the prayer. The prayer isn't so that you are protected from harm from the food, it is to thank god for the fact that he gave you food in the first place.

Food poisoning is more common now. Statistics indicate that prayer protection doesn't always work. Be careful when you eat out.

Yes it is necessary, we are civilized and have ettiquette, we know we should at least say thank you;
start when we open our eyes first thing in the morning we praise our Lord and say thank Thou until we are in bed ready to go to sleep.
