So i'm 17 and so is my boyfriend.. our parents won't sign the papers to let us get legally married.. so we're wondering if under the eyes of god would we be married even if we don't have the papers. Like, can you go to a church and have a minister or something do all the vows and stuff if you asked? I know in the old days people didn't have papers and **** on file to say they were married.. they just did it with a priest or whatever and they were considered married.. people also didn't have to be 18 back then to get married either. So yeah.. can someone PLEASE help.

It won't be recognized in your state as legal without the paper work, God says to obey the superior authorities, so, you need the paper work.

Contrary to what many people will tell you, marriage was a principally secular institution until taken over by the Catholic Church at the Council of Trent in the 16th Century. Its aim was to gain extra control over people's lives - it could then essentially veto marriages it did not approve of.
So the only thing that really matters is "are you married in the eyes of the law". Even a Church today is bound by this recognition, and no-one would claim you were married until this was legally recognised. In fact, its not a marriage until this happens - its just a party in a Church.

A priest doesn't marry you. You marry yourselves which is then blessed by a priest. Don't know if you're Catholic or not, but we need a priest and two witnesses according to Canon Law. You both must be baptized.
That being said, I doubt a priest would let you get married in a church being so young and without governmental approval.

Look up the ten commandments. It says "Honor Your Father and Mother." That means, you have to listen to them, as they are wise and know what they are saying. Also, any good minister would counsel you first before conducting a ceremony, and would tell you that one of the best predictors of having a long and happy marriage is being a little older than you are now. If it's right, it will still be right later, when you're old enough to know more about what you're doing.

Your underage. Thats about all. I don't think a priest would even marry you because they still need to do paperwork, give a marriage license and everything and that also goes to the state. Just wait another year til you are 18, love will still be there won't it?

You wouldn't be legally married which is really the main purpose.
That would mean you also couldn't get married by a minister.
You're too young and it's for your benefit that your parents won't sign.

You really aren't going to like my answer.. but why do you want to get married.. and why do your parents oppose it? Trust your parents.. they see things we often don't when we are blinded by love.. One year is not that long to wait, if you really love each other.Wait and do it the right way.. every woman deserves to have her father walk her down the isle...and have her parents support her.. make it a day worth remembering..and ask your parents in an adult fashion why they don't want you too.. Remember you want to be treated like an adult so have an adult conversation with them..

too bad were not living in the past... were living in today! not sure how that would work out for you... you could get married through church.. if someone is willing to do it for you... but you still have to be married by law... or it wont really be legitimate!

in the eyes of god, no problem. but you wont get the tax benefits until you are legally married.
so get married in the eyes of god, and once you both are 18, then you can get legally married.
good luck
