I think he means physical affection, not sex, just cuddling. holding hands, hugging. picture 2 puppies cuddled up together, all mixed up.
I was raised in a home where there was no physical affection, in fact, I've never even seen my parents kiss, and as for hugging us, hardly ever happened.
by the time I was 22 I was so starved for physical affection that I took it anywhere I could get it, I was seeing 3 married me at one time. that wasn't the right way to get it, but I sure learned what it was, and how much I needed it.
I hope you learn in a better way than I did.

do you give him a hug? a kiss? hold his hand while you're out? just because your family is not a PDA type of family doesn't mean you have to be like that. change.

You need to work through your emotions and let him love you. Maybe you need to go talk to a counselor to get some help, but tell yourself that it is okay to let yourself love him and tell him what does he want you to do to show your love and tell him to teach you how to love him the way he needs so you can keep him because if you don't do something he will tire of it and he will leave you.

You need to have a heart to heart with your boyfriend. It is clear that he is a sensitive guy and considering how you were brought up it would be difficult for you to show affection, talk to him about it, maybe by opening up to him on that, he will help you to tap into your emotion.

Do what feels natural to you. don't try to show affection. I have a sister who never shows affection but I know she loves me. I don't have to have her kiss me or say it. She definitely loves me though. Eventually he will accept how you show emotion. Maybe you show it differently.

let hin know where u came from, and how it is hard for you to show affection, then if u really do care for him work on showing more so he knows at least u are trying.

try harder. say it first. hold his hand. initiate a kiss. when watching tv...sit closer, snuggle up against him, give him a little kiss on the cheek.

you can change that aspect of yourself.
