I don't think so. I think that most mormons overlook the fact that the word of wisdom is for the sake of being healthy.. and thus, being fat... that is probably just as big (haha.. i made a funny!!) an offense as drinking coffee.

I'm not sure either constitutes an actual "sin" though. The only argument you could make that disobeying the word of wisdom is a sin, is maybe the sin of disobedience. But the actual act of drinking the coffee? Not so much a sin... but not so good for the tummy either...

My pre-mormon days, I was an avid coffee drinker. I quit for a looooonnnngg time and when I tried to drink it again... I got so sick... icky. Then again... I'm the same way with dairy products and chocolate now that I've been avoiding them... (thats not in the word of wisdom.. thats just the word of meghan) haha

Another fat-phobic. Did you know that many fat people don't eat any more than anyone else? That many skinny people with ultra-active metabolism eat like pigs but never gain an ounce, where fat people with uber-lazy metabolism, can eat low calorie and never lose an ounce?

It is not a sin to be fat. It IS a sin, IMHO, to judge people based on what they look like.

Pope Gregory the Great in the 6th Century AD claimed the following as the Seven Cardinal Sins: Luxuria (extravagance and lust), Gula (gluttony), Avaritia (greed), Acedia (sloth), Ira (vengeance or anger), Invidia (envy), and Superbia (pride).

I guess you could say this is an inspired 'additional testament" to the 10 Commandments. St Smith added coffee and other mild beverages later, but eliminated the "Lust" disqualifier.

You go, Joe!

I'm not a Mormon, but my EX wife was one and isn't it AMAZING how these religious peoples seem to find so much SIN in everything EXCEPT looking like big fat obese PIGS.........

If their weight is something they did not cause themselves, then it isn't a sin. Otherwise, they are not taking care of their temple (body) by eating fatty foods or by drinking caffeine.

If you're mistreating your body, it is wrong. But not everyone realizes that meat should be regulated, even though it does say it in the scriptures.

What? The mormons in my ward were fat, and didn't drink coffee.

Nope, they are the exact same. People like to focus on the caffiene issue because it is so unique. The coffee thing is more of a directive than anything else (it won't keep you out of heaven, you just shouldn't do it). Medical studies will show long term use is unhealthy.

Yeah(well I'm not mormon) but you can be fat simply because of health complications...you can still eat healthy food but be fat...

Drinking coffee is something you can control, the tanic acid kills your brain cells...so it's something that God hasn't caused, but something you've done.

I don't know what you mean by a sin, but I'll call you a judgmental bigot. Some would call that behavior a sin

A sin is a sin. They are all the same size.
