We adopted our five and a half year old dog Jessie from a shelter four years ago, and she is a great dog--except she has never been fully housebroken. She seems to have a lot of anxiety when we're not around, and nothing has worked-- crate training, confining her to small places, making sure to clean the places she's gone extremely well etc. It's not as though we are leaving her for extremely long periods of time either, sometimes within a half hour she's already gone number one and two! I'm at my wits end and don't know what to do to change this-please help!

Sounds like she has separation anxiety, the poor dear. She probably thinks you'll never come back, like her previous family, so try to understand why she does what she does. Most dogs that soil the house while suffering this anxiety do it in the first 30 minutes so if you could make short trips, please do that.
You might also get her past her anxiety by leaving for just a few minutes, coming back and (hopefully) praising her for not making a mess. Then making it ten minutes, fifteen, etc. It's going to take time because of her trauma, but try it and see.

Take her out (emphasis on 'take'), stay together with her for say 10 minutes, asserting the information you opt to apply, no longer or she'll forget approximately what she's accessible for and locate some thing somewhat interesting to concentration on, If she hasn't long gone in that element, deliver her back in, no remark, and crate, or confine her to a room the place you are able to freshen up her errors honestly. stay together with her, and the 2d she is going to squat, get her outdoors back, asserting No! this is going to take the time working at, yet ultimately she'll get the message. in case you employ a crate, putting her in there could keep away from her peeing interior the homestead in any respect - circulate away her for as much as twenty minutes, and get her outdoors back. whilst she does circulate, supply her various compliment. whilst she has a mistake, forget approximately approximately her and sparkling it up. canine hate being omitted - even although sometimes I 'growl' softly under my breath whilst clearing up!! there became a reason she ended up in a glance after, and you have probable got here across it!! If she's on 2 food an afternoon now, max., she could in basic terms could desire to pooh no extra effective than 4 situations interior the day, assuming her stools are commonly used. Peeing is slightly diverse, yet back, she could have the potential to choose for a minimum of two hours (for now - extending as you become familiar together with her actual functionality trend) without peeing - and back offered there is not any wellbeing motives for what she's doing. Bitches quite can circulate down with a UTI, so if she's peeing normally, and squatting right this moment after she's emptied with little popping out, suspect this. assemble a pattern of her pee and get her checked via your vet. there is not any element attempting to properly suited this, if she would be able to't help it. Please do no longer take her back to the look after - what she's doing isn't her fault - it is the fault of whoever had her before for no longer sorting this out - and it is often your fault in case you do no longer help her too!

Have you been using the apropriate sized crate? (Something just big enough to lay down, stand up, and sit in) Because if it was too big then dogs think they have room to do their business in.
I'm assuming you've talked to the vet to make sure she doesn't have any health problems.
Would doggy day care be a viable option?
