Your handicap does not effect the stiffness of the shaft you use. The speed of your swing is what you look at for stiffness. Go to a local golf shop that has swing analyzation equipment and they can time your swing. You can then tell what type of shafts you need for the specific brand you will be buying.

I am talking about how fast you swing your club (mph). If you swing hard, you want stiff. If it is a slower swing you want regular or graphite shaft. Any reputible golf store will be able to tell you exactly what you need by seeing your swing.

well along with the previous answer your speed does affect your shaft but for most people that are mid handicaps and even low handicaps a shaft can help determine what shot style you are looking for. For example a regular shaft is going to give you more distance but you are going to give up some accuracy. A stiff shaft is the other way around. I would say that you should stay with a regular shaft unless you have a fast swing speed, meaning high 90's at least. I also would say that rather than the shaft I would try and find clubs that fit you. Going to demo days and trying out as many clubs as you can before you buy is a great idea because there are so many clubs out there you want to make sure that you chose the right one. If you can I would go get some custom fit clubs because you will see a difference. It might be more but it is well worth the money. Hope this helps.

I have to agree with wbaker777, try both shafts and see which one you hit better with. your swing speed determines what kind of shaft you need, and if you say that you have a fast swing then a stiff shaft is probably the way to go. you can only know for sure though by trying them out or have the speed of your swing measured.

Be honest with your answers. If your average drive goes 200 yds. or less, go with a regular. 200 to 270 will mostly use a stiff, though the tip flexes may vary for best results. Over 270, go X-flex. My swing speed is around 95 mph, so I like "soft" stiff shafts. Talk to your local pro and demo if you can.

The easiest accurate answer is to hit both regular and stiff flex on a launch monitor. The data will tell you what you need for your particular swing. Some folks just don't get it..... Swing speed is what determines what flex you need. Only if you are in that grey area between flex's is accuracy even remotely a question that needs to be considered.

I would suggest getting properly fitted for new irons esp with a launch monitor, that will tell your swing speed fairly accurately.

If you can get uniflex i'd go for that its basically a mix between the two. If you cant just stick to stiff.
