I have 7 cats.

Leo (M) Age 14. I named him Leo because well like you said about your dog I always wanted a cat named Leo.

Mr. Fuzzy (M) Age 10. I named him Mr. Fuzzy cause he had long hair and I wanted something that would match his long hair. I started to name him Mr. Fluffy but I thought it was too girly even though it had Mr. on the front of it. I figured people might shorten the name. I almost called him Harry too. LOL.

Angel (F) Age 7. I named her Angel cause my brother gave her to me. She is part Himalayan and very pretty. He was calling her Flip and I didn't like that so I changed it to something prettier.

Sugar (M) Age 6. Sugar is the son of Angel and I wanted to name him something that was light. He was really light at first then got a lot darker later. I wanted to name him and his sister something similar so they became Sugar and Honey.

Honey (F) Age 6. Name is similar to her brother Sugar.

Purrcella (F) Age 4. She is solid black with long hair. Everyone was saying name her midnight but I didn't want to cause the name is so common. She has a very deep purr and I was looking up names on the Internet and came across Cinderella and Purrfect so I kind of combined the two and got Purrcella. We call her Purrcy for short.

Jasper (M) Age 1. It was hard naming him cause my Mom didn't like anything I came up with. I was wanting to name him Chance cause I got him from the humane society and gave him a chance but she didn't like it. Then I said Chase cause he is so fast. She didn't like that. I said Jake, Jack, and Jacy but she said they didn't sound right. Well, I said what about Johnny cause he looks like he is wearing eyeliner like Captain Jack from Pirates of the Carribean who is played by Johnny Depp. But no, Mom didn't like that either well she thought my brother was going to name his son that so I kind of understood. So, I was just going nuts and wrote down a bunch of names covering two pages and was reading them off to her and she said Jasper sounded good and so I said Jasper it is.

What I do whenever I get a pet is let that pet tell me what they should be named. Sometimes I just look in their eyes and a name pops into my head. Other times the way they act can lead to a very appropriate name. I had an orange kitten that just got into everything -- he unrolled the toilet paper and tipped over the wastebasket and was just a little delinquent so I called him "Rascal". I saw an older kitten in a pet store and it looked at me and seemed to say, "Hi, my name is Peachy -- take me home." So I did. She was a beige-colored cat with extra toes. Naming cats and dogs can be such fun. Here are the names of some pets we've had, Huggy, Baby, Tiny, Bunny, Tigger, Shorty, Cronkite, Jaws, Shadoe, Snickers, Agnes (sometimes a cat will remind you of someone you know). I named one for my aunt and she thought it was so funny.

Oreo-kids named her, coloring, she is 18. J.D. - already named when friend gave him up, Pippy and Tippy, tuxedo twins and Tippy has white tip on tail, Marty was rescued from senior center called Martin's Run (Martin was too formal, lol), Idgy, missing rear foot so she just moves like an idgy (?), Mutumbo is huge like huge basketball player with same name, but been shortened to just Tummy, Braveheart-my youngest, 13 wks, was the first of the litter to do everything! Spaz - name speaks for itself, Angel was rescued right before Christmas in a parking space where I was pulling into, she was only 8 wks old, very injured, they didn't think she would live, but she is great now so she was Christmas Angel. Sophie is an elegant tabby/siamese and Sealy is named that because after I got her I dreampt she was out back of my house, but was a seal! (I know, hubby tells me about it all the time). Have a few more, but getting too long......

Well, my cat was already named Jo Jo when I adopted him from a rescue group, but I was allowed to change his name if I wanted to. I thought Jo Jo was a cute name, and I had a dream about a white cat named Jo Jo a few days before I met him. It's a cool coincidence because my cat's mostly white, but has gray on his head and a little bit on his tail.

Does this count as naming my cat since I was allowed to name him what I wanted, but kept the name because I think it's a good one for him?

Dogs: Izzy (Just liked the name) Patti (We got her on St. Patrick's Day and Pickles (she's a weird little dog and needed an equally weird name)

Cats: Ouija (he was this very mysterious kitten that roamed around our yard for a few days, he went missing for a while and we joked that we'd need a ouija board to find him) and Steve (in all honestly he just looks like a Steve)

I currently have a tortoiseshell cat named Kameko (Japanese word for "tortoise child") and a gray tabby named Amaya (Japanese for "night rain"). I have always likes oriental names and was looking for an appropriate name for my tortie. (I had already named my mom's tortie "Shellie.")

I find that looking at lists of baby names is often a good way to name kittens. My babies often go at least a couple of weeks without names (except for "Baby" or "Little Girl") until their personalities come out and I can better match a name to the kitten.

My black cats are named Apollo and Artemis (Artie) after the mythological Greek god of war and goddess of the hunt, who were twins. The cats are brothers, and fit their names perfectly!! Apollo can be agressive, doesn't rely on others and would rather beat his prey to death. Artie is usually more passive, he's loving, and could probably catch a housefly.
