definitely adopt girlie. And I think a Labrador. I have a 2 year old Lab, and boy oh boy are they playful! They are notorious for being "puppies" for a while! Have fun! Muah

adopt one from a shelter or a rescue organization.
an adopted dog is the best kind
and adoption isn't free, you'll pay some fees, and probably have to find a vet to use before you can take the dog, but adopted dogs are #1 in my book.

boxer, my family owns one and he's very playful. a bit stubborn at times but he's a good dog

Do your research based on the qualities you are looking for. Get a book on dog breeds.

You can go to any shelter website and they usually have a list of questions you can answer and then they match you up with the best breeds for your circumstances. Please adopt from a shelter, rather than buy from a breeder, though.

there is a lot to consider. how much room do u have? yard? how big of a dog? how much time can u exercise it? high or low maintenance hair/grooming?
