Someone from bestbuy told me I had to get a monster cable 800 or 1000 series to get a 1080p signal, is that true? I have a 1080p plasma TV.

Of course someone at Bestbuy will tell you that. They make their BIG profit margin on those overpriced cables. Of course "having to get a monster cable" is a lie as most retail sales people will do!
Depending on the length and gauge of the cable, you should be able to get it for about 1/10th the cost of Best Buy or any other big retailer like them if you order it through ebay or a reputable online distributor.

Hi. You don't have to use a HDMI cable .A Component cable is just as good because it is not possible to predict whether a HDMI cable will perform better than an analog one.A lot of people wrongly presume Digital is always better than analog because it is just a series of zeros and ones and is error free. The main reason for using a HDMI cable is it carries the video and audio signals together, doing away with using two cables, one for video and one for audio.HDMI cables are subject to a maximum length of about 15 meters .Also HDMI do not use error correction which means once information is lost,it's lost for good. This should not happen with well made cables of short distances but may be a problem with longer runs. If you do decide to buy them don't pay a lot of money.Monster cables are expensive and are not better than the cheaper brands.Try to get ones that have good solid connections on them and are not too long and you should be fine.It is best to have the Component ones also to hook up to your player to see if the quality is better or not .This is the only way to be sure which cable out of Component and HDMI is the best for your display.

It is not necessary to buy a Monster cable unless you plan on going beyond 10 feet. If you are under this, then you can buy a cable for $10-$20 and it will work just fine.

All HDMI cables will support 1080p.
