A guy at a store I visit often, it's small and he's usually manning the desk when I go. We usually chat a bit, though I don't know what to say or how to ask him about himself, and my mom is convinced he has something for me, because he seems glad to see me. Once I went and he wasn't there, and later he said he was sorry he didn't see me because he was out of town. I thought he was just being friendly to keep me as a customer.

Oh but he's got a ring on his right hand ring finger..doesn't that mean something?

And I don't want people to focus on age, but he is older than me, probably by only a few years.

A ring on the LEFT hand is where the wedding ring goes.
Let's face it. You're female, he's male. He probably is attracted to you and fishing for your reactions to his comments.
If you like him, all you have to do is be around him some more, smile at him a lot, and he will be asking you out soon enough.
If he doesn't ask you out after a few trips to the store, he's not interested, OR he's intimidated by your Mom being there too.

If he is from Europe and the ring is on his right hand, that is supposed to mean that he is married. They wear their wedding band on the right hand. Well that is what I have heard. Also, depending on the age difference, why not go out with him. But first to see if he is really into you mention something about his "girlfriend". Like, "Oh, does your girlfriend mind you working here." Or something like that, and that way you will find out if he has a girlfriend or not. Ok. maybe don't take this word for word, but it has worked for my friends before.

Well, the ring doesn't mean anything unless it's on the left hand. Ask him about that if you really want to know.
He might have a little crush on you or something or he might just like talking to you.
Maybe you should just ask him, like in a playful, kinda flirty way if he's just being friendly. You never know what might happen.

He may be attracted, but probably being shy or trying to keep it professional. You could always ask him to have coffee or something.

He may enjoy seeing you. Just strike up a convo...if you see him near the end of the week...ask him if he has a fun weekend planned. Something nice and innocent ....
