Speaking in tongues is physical evidence of the Holy Spirit. Christians believe it to be a way to communicate with God on a deeper level. The Bible says that people began speaking in tongues after recieving Jesus Christ as their Savior. I am a Christian and my mother and father speak in tongues and they explain it to me; its really alot more to it than this but its hard to explain with out getting very deep into the Word of God. If you have a bible you can look in 1 Corinthians chapters 12 and 14 for more info. Hope this helped! God Bless!! ;0)

There's a personal "tongue" used for the individual's edification which many receive when baptised in the Holy Spirit; and then there's the Prophetic Tongue, a Gift of the Holy Spirit to help the whole church and which needs interpretation and which the churches have specific rules about so that there isn't chaos...
Both are from the Holy Spirit and is God's Holy Spirit speaking/praying.... Interpretation is another Gift of the Holy Spirit...[however, we are to pray and ask for understanding of our personal tongue as well]
Peace be with you :)

The apostles spoke in tongues so that the people could hear and understand what they were saying in their own language. God himself could speak in different languages so people of every nationality could hear and understand what he said. The Bible records it, so people believe .

Get yourself a New Living Translation of the Holy Bible, which is written in plain modern English and read it and find the answers for your self. Don't rely on anyone else for the answers, rely only on the Bible.
