Why are laureth sulfates used in making shampoo, soap and hand lotions?

I am allergic to sulfa of ANY kind! As a consumer I have to stand there and read the ingredients on all of my bathing products.

I have to spend 75% more on the products that DON'T use it in the products.

So far I have only found 1 name brand that does Not use Sulfa and that is J.A.S.O.N.

do any of you know of any more brands that do not contain Laural sulfates?

I never use products with SLS in them, because they are a harsh cleaner, the type of cleaner that can stripe thick oil off concrete. They make foam and strip the oils (good and bad) off your skin. I never use them...ever.

Jasons it s good place to start, I love their shampoos and conditions, I don't use body lotions. I don't know where you live, but I just read the ingredients list before buying (I read them all as I am a vegan, and have to ensure everything I purchase is animal free and SLS free).
There are many products without SLS mainly in healthy food stores. Try an olive oil bar instead of regular soap, some are scented a little with orange, pattouli, or other natural scents.

Are you also allergic to the coconut derived sodium laurel sulphates? You should check this out, because there are natural laundry soaps with the coconut derived version which wash clothing well, but might still cause you an allergic reaction. I was out clothing in 1/4 baking soap, 2 tlbs white vinegar, 6 drops of tea tree oil and either lavender or pattouli oil for a gently scent. I have very scensitive skin and don't like any chemicals used in washing our clothing. I find this mix works really well. Just add the baking soda in with the clothing, and add the vinegar in the soap dispenser for a front load washer, or wait until the machine is 1/2 full to add the vinegar to a top load washer (so it doesn't foam like mad!).

I wish I could list brand names off the top of my head, but every area of the world has different products, and every store. So just keep looking and reading. I find making a 'Safe List' and bring it with me to the stores is really simple. Browse online for products and read the ingredients and keep them on an index card. Anything from soap brands to lotion. Bring it everytime you shop with your grocery list. Saves time when you are in a hurry and can't read everything.

There is something that really mystifies me..
Lauryl sulphate, is NOT sulfa....sulphates are not Sulphadiazine compounds.
Lauryl sulphate, is a non cationic (not metal containing) non cationic mild detergent, used in very many dermatologycal preparations, (medical skin preparations), including cleansing lotions against acne....
Sulphas, or sulphonamides, on the other hand, are complex drugs, antibiotics, that act in a celular level, inhibiting the uptake of folic acid inside the bacteria (not the user) derivatives and thus, blocking its reproduction.
As far as I can see, lauryl sulphate has NOTHING to do with sulpha derivatives....the name may be similar, but medically both substances are entirely unrelated.
Check that with your GP, because perhaps you have been suffering unnecesarily, from a misnomer,,
(Gymnasium and Magnesium are NOT the same thing for instance)

They are a good detergent and easily get filth out of your hair or off your skin.

They have been around for years and are in most products. I have no idea why you have an unnatural fear of them.

I am sure someone makes a product designed to take advantage of people with that kind of phobia. However it probably does a lousy cleaning job.
