so why do you give money to religious leaders who live off your money while doing absolutely no meaningful work whatsoever?

i bet that, if they could, animals would observe us humans, watch how we waltz around, raping and destroying their homelands, thinking we own the joint and thinking we're so intelligent... and these animals would say to themselves...

"if theyre so clever, why the hell do so many of them get suckered by religious leaders into parting with their hard-earned cash, just so those religious leaders can live off these donations and do absolutely no meaningful labor in return whatsoever?

thats silly. that would be like one of them fast cheetahs stressing its lungs and muscles to kill some prey, then giving it up to a lazy hog who'd done nothing except tell the cheetah that giving up the prey is the moral thing to do. and cheetahs aint stupid huh..."

Well, it's just the same as people who send gifts to their favorite celebrity, and pay for concert tickets, movies, and CDs... These people dedicate their life to preaching the gospel. It's not as easy as you think. They are constantly studying the Bible, highlighting the things they feel are important, making notes, turning those notes into their sermon, and then getting up in front of who knows how many people and telling them the things they probably otherwise wouldn't have known, because most of us are too busy in our daily lives to go through and read it ourselves! It's their job, and they live off of the donations.

Besides, you don't question a girl scout when she tries to sell you cookies, do you?

You really should have worded your question more politely, instead of calling people stupid for doing what they think is the right thing to do. A simple, "I don't understand why.... So, why do people do this?" would have been sufficient. But, in wording it so hatefully, you are showing your own ignorance.

As a Christian, I am the first to admit that there are and have been some so called Christian leaders who are indeed "fleecing the flock" per se.

However, many do not live high on the hog with the money contributed by their followers but instead direct that money into life changing action both here in the US as well as in underdeveloped countries throughout the world. They feed the hungry, clothe the naked, build homes for the homeless and bring medicine for the sick. By concentrating large amounts of money into one fund, they are able to accomplish a hundred times more than we could do as individuals.

Flock fleecers...yes there are some..but I believe the great majority of religious leaders do not take unfair advantage of their leadership position.

God Bless

Hey, don't knock a pastor's job until you've tried it. My dad is a pastor, and had to deal with more stress with many situations than most jobs. On top of that there is studying, preaching, hospital visitation, ensuring that the church is ok during the week, dealing with staff pastors, dealing with board members, dealing with people who are angry and want to leave the church because you didn't shake their hand Sunday morning, ensuring that there is enough finances to operate the church, and the pay isn't as great as you are claiming it to be. Take it from a first hand witness, a pastor's life isn't the simplest, or the best, and it doesn't help when people encourage others to go against a Biblical teaching. God Bless you all this evening.

The church is supposed to use that money to help the community, or even people & groups outside of the community. It's a shame when religious leaders squander it. But as Christians, we are supposed to be generous and give to our church organizations. As meaningless as you may think my church is, for example, because you aren't religious...it's not meaningless to the AIDS orphans in Africa who eat good food and wear clean clothes because of the financial help we give to them. And my church can't even afford a building. We meet inside a movie theater. We don't even have a real alter. Not all church leaders are crooked...only the well-known ones, it seems.

I think these people give up theire money to buy salvation. I've found that they don't care if they're being exploited. They want to belong to this group so badly, they will shell out the loot. I don't get it either.
