Your recruiter is your friend, provide the information he need and you will ship out in no time. If it's safe to tell him, yes it is. Now the real question is have you ever been charged for intoxication or possession? If yes, then tell him immediately, if no then that's your call dude.

it won't be safe NOT to tell them. you run the risk of being booted for Fraudulent Enlistment if you lie/omit the truth.

BTW, depending on Branch, more than 5 times over a lifetime of smoking Pot is considered habitual and is a PDQ.

You mean a Military Recruiter?

Define safe...

because I don't think it is "safe" to be recruited at all...

(you do know that there's this little war going on, right?)

I won't even bother to point out the irony in your question... and combined with Bush's measure to make sure that you can't get a student loan if you've smoked pot.... but you can sure as heck die for your country!

Yes, that's fine. Just so long as you haven't done it lately. If you are caught using drugs while on active duty - you will be discharged though. If you have an extreme case of drug use in the past, you may require a waiver.

I was a Marine. I made the mistake of telling the recruiter that I had smoked pot as a freshmen in high school. It went into my file.

It never caused me any real trouble but it did keep coming up.

Keep it to yourself, they do not need to know.

It is not only safe, but it is legally required. As long as you pass your drug test, that wont disqualify you. It may hurt your chances at a security clearance if you need one, but you must accept the consequences of your actions. I highly suggest you not lie about it. If they care, they'll find out anyway.

Yes, but they're not going to want to do paperwork, so they'll tell you to say no. If you ever have a security interview, tell them that you did.

If you never sought professional help, you didn't have a drinking problem.

If you don't do it now, I wouldn't mention it. He really doesn't need to know if you have or not in the past, just if you currently are...
