Considering that you only have to do one weekend a month, then you will only get a monthly "paycheck" for those couple of days. I am sure that it won't be enough to live on though.

And you can still be deployed while in the Reserves and be on a carrier.

Look if you HATE your job get out and be done with the navy. As far as reserves go what type of command you get stationed with depends on where you live and what they (the Unit are assiginged to) it may be a carrier or a LBoat or a small boy or some other type of Navy command. I think the pay is like 25% of your base pay so yes you would get a monthly check, you should check with a Navy Reserve recruiter for more info.

If you don't like your job then yes, you should get out. Your command won't let you reclassify because you're in the classic battle between command and serviceman. They think they can keep you on their terms. Just call them on it, and remind them that a reclassification is the only way you'll stay in. If that doesn't work, talk to an echelon higher (at this point, you needn't worry about what your command thinks). I'm willing to bet your command's point of view changes when they have to explain to their superiors why they decided not to keep a sailor in the Navy.

Why would the NAVY keep you on active duty or reserves for that matter ? with a negative attitude and probably a mediocre performance record to boot.
Try the civilian sector!
