I've had two siamese in my life and both were extremely affectionate. I find it weird that they're skittish because siamese are usually very friendly, and vocal too.

They aren't. Inbred ones can be, but most Siamese are so doglike they're mellowed out with everything.
A lot depends on what they're exposed to as kittens, just like puppies if they don't hear new things, dont' get handled by all sorts of people, don't experience the unusual, then they'll be afraid of a lot of things later on.
Most breeders have their kittens see things and be handled by strangers, to make sure the cat is socialized, and everyone takes this for granted.
My siamese wasn't terrified or skittish. My half siamese mixed breed wasn't that way either. You must have only met ones who had limited experiences before being given to new homes.

My part-Siamese cat is extremely friendly, allowing me to bring developmentally disabled people home - they hold him and pet him and he is very friendly. His mother acted as a guard cat to a four year old girl, following her everywhere, watching out for her, before the girl moved away.
My best friend has Siamese cats, and they are very accepting of me - friendly and welcoming - but they do not accept everyone, they have definite opinions on the characters of people.
But then female cats are much more cautious about people they do not know, and they are less effusive emotionally. My female cat is not Siamese, and she has taken two years to really get to know my boyfriend after we moved in with him. He has a hard time understanding that when she sits in the same room with him, it means as much to her as when the part-siamese male jumps up on his lap.
Sometimes you just have to accept the cat as they are and not expect them to act in a certain way.

My cat is part Siamese too and he is very skiddish. He loves to be around our immediate family, but once someone else comes around he vanishes into thin air. He can also be very frisky and likes to cause trouble, but on the same note he is dog like in the aspect of his loyalty to us. He is always at the foot of our bed throughout the night, regardless of how many times he gets kicked he just lays there. They certainly are a different kind of breed. It just must be because of their genetics, just like people.

I have a ful blood 7 pt. Chocolate Siamese and he was skiddish even with me and my husband when we first got him. Now he is fine with us until someone new come's in then he goe's back to hiding and being skiddish. Just give your cat time to get use to everyone and it will calm down.
